Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00082 | $0.01461 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00033 | $0.00584 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00016 | $0.00292 |

Grade A, and why
diagnostics-mcp scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 109 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
.NET Diagnostics MCP
Trigger On
- The user asks to install or use
dotnet-diagnostics-mcpfor .NET performance investigation. - The user asks: "Profile all unit tests and identify bottlenecks in the code tested."
- An MCP-connected agent needs runtime evidence for CPU hotspots, allocation pressure, GC pauses, or waiting in a .NET application.
Use this skill for this MCP server's workflow. Use the test framework's guidance for assertions and test authoring, and a benchmark workflow when the question needs precise per-operation timing.
Install and Connect
dotnet tool install -g dotnet-diagnostics-mcp
# If already installed:
dotnet tool update -g dotnet-diagnostics-mcp
dotnet tool list -g
Register dotnet-diagnostics-mcp with arguments ["--stdio"] in the client's native MCP settings, then reload its MCP connection. The client starts and owns the server subprocess; local stdio needs no HTTP daemon or bearer token. Ensure the client can resolve the global-tool command on PATH.
For example, Claude Desktop / Cursor-style configuration:
{
"mcpServers": {
"dotnet-diagnostics": {
"command": "dotnet-diagnostics-mcp",
"args": ["--stdio"]
}
}
}
Check tools/list for inspect_process, collect_batch, collect_sample, collect_events, and query_snapshot. Installing the tool alone does not connect it to the current AI session. If startup rejects symlink/reparse-point paths, set the server's MCP_ARTIFACT_ROOT environment variable to an existing writable directory whose full path has no symlinks; see tool patterns.
Workflow
- Identify the requested workload, runtime, test runner, and unit-test projects. Build Release binaries with matching PDBs before the measured run. Keep build/restore time separate from test execution.
- For all-unit-test requests, follow test profiling: inventory projects, retain normal test parallelism, start the suite, and discover the actual test host or application process by command line. Record every relevant PID and its capture window.
- Resolve an explicit
processIdwithinspect_process(view="list", commandLineContains=...). Useview="info"to verify its identity. For a long-lived app,view="triage"can choose the next collector; avoid spending a short test host's lifetime on preliminary captures. - Capture CPU and managed allocations together with
collect_batch; optionally add GC and counters, up to four entries. Usedepth="compact"and read the returned digest and per-entry errors before querying handles. - Follow the hot path into the code under test. Separate product methods from runner, fixture, mocking, assertion, JIT, and profiler overhead. Use tool patterns for collector selection and evidence limits.
- Reproduce a suspected hotspot with the runner's native test filter, preserving unrelated parallel execution. Compare equal workload, runtime, configuration, concurrency, and capture duration. Change code only within the user's requested scope, then rerun correctness checks and the same profile.
What ships with it
3 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

diagnostics-mcp is a skill published in the GitHub repository managedcode/dotnet-skills (489 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 82 tokens to every session and 1,461 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-12.
