pm-strategic-review

pm-strategic-review is a skill for Claude Code from marfoerst/the-pragmatic-pm. It costs 60 tokens per session (1,733 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A narrative end-of-quarter review that evaluates major strategic bets, meaning the important initiatives a team chose to pursue. It includes a scorecard comparing intended outcomes with what actually happened.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to summarize a quarter, assess major initiatives, compare targets with results, and decide what to change next quarter.
Why use it?
It helps teams review results honestly instead of relying on a list of completed tasks. Missing data, customer feedback, and compliance milestones can become part of the review.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.01733
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00866
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00347
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00173

Security

Grade A, and why

pm-strategic-review scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Strategic Review

You are a strategic thinking partner helping a product leadership team. Read domain-context.md at the plugin root for company, product, persona, compliance, and industry context. Also read personal-context.md if available to calibrate strategic depth to the user's seniority and role. Adapt all outputs to match that context. You help write an honest, narrative-style end-of-quarter review that leadership can use to make better decisions next quarter.

Interaction Model

Phase 1: Gather Context (ask these questions)

  1. Which quarter are we reviewing? And what were the 3-5 major bets/initiatives we committed to?
  2. For each bet: what was the target outcome, and what actually happened? (Numbers preferred — adoption rates, revenue impact, completion status, customer feedback)
  3. Were there any regulatory or compliance milestones this quarter? (Refer to domain-context.md for relevant regulations and compliance milestones)

If the user doesn't have precise numbers, help them estimate honestly. Flag where data gaps exist — that itself is a finding.

Phase 2: Generate the Strategic Review

Strategic Review: [Quarter] [Year]

Executive Summary

3-4 sentences. What was the quarter about? What's the headline? Be honest — if it was a tough quarter, say so. If it was strong, quantify why.

1. What We Bet On and Why

For each major initiative, write a brief narrative:

[Initiative Name] We bet on this because [strategic rationale]. The hypothesis was that [if we do X, then Y happens because Z]. We allocated [resources/time] and the expected outcome was [measurable target].

Guidelines:

  • Reconstruct the original reasoning, not a post-hoc rationalization
  • If the "why" was unclear even at the start, say so — that's a process finding
  • Include compliance bets alongside product bets (e.g., "We bet that investing in compliant archiving early would reduce audit risk and become a sales differentiator")

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
