autorag-lite-setup

autorag-lite-setup is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Marker-Inc-Korea/AutoRAG. It costs 65 tokens per session (3,116 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A tool for creating and maintaining a model-free AutoRAG Lite document index. An index is a searchable record of documents; this tool handles its setup, data sources, updates, monitoring, and rebuilding.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to initialize AutoRAG Lite, add document locations, refresh or watch sources, check status, and reset or rebuild an index.
Why use it?
It helps keep a local document index available and up to date without configuring an AI model.

About the project

AutoRAG Agent is a librarian-style system that searches files on a computer, checks the original documents, and organizes findings into numbered knowledge units using multiple retrieval methods. It helps an agent answer questions from local documents without first copying them into a centralized vector database, while the repository also maintains the earlier AutoRAG tool for optimizing retrieval-augmented-generation pipelines. The catalogue entries provide skills and instructions for working with AutoRAG Agent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00065 $0.03116
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.01246
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00623
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00312

Security

Grade A, and why

autorag-lite-setup scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AutoRAG Lite setup

Use this skill only to bootstrap, register, or repair AutoRAG Lite MCP: initialize trusted config, connect the host, build indexes, and verify search. Normal Lite use is MCP tool calling, not a search skill or shell command. Use autorag-setup instead when the model-backed librarian must be configured.

Safety

  • Inspect only non-secret config metadata: searchPaths, workspacePath, memoryPath, minSync, jikji, datasources.
  • Never print, copy, migrate, compare, or persist credential values. Store only environment-variable names such as tokenEnv or apiKeyEnv.
  • Never move, rename, edit, or delete source documents. Lite commands write indexes only under the configured workspace .autorag/ directory and Jikji's central store (<OS data dir>/jikji/).
  • Do not index system trees, app bundles, caches, credential stores, node_modules, .git, dist, build, target, .cache, .autorag, or .jikji.

Install the package if needed

@autorag/librarian ships both autorag (bootstrap/maintenance) and autorag-mcp (stdio server). The executable requires Node.js >= 24 on PATH.

command -v autorag-mcp >/dev/null || bun install -g @autorag/librarian
command -v autorag
command -v autorag-mcp
autorag lite --help

If Bun is unavailable, npm install -g @autorag/librarian is acceptable. If only autorag exists, upgrade the package rather than substituting CLI retrieval for MCP. For a source checkout, run bun run build and register the absolute dist/mcp/index.js path instead of the installed executable.

Initialize a model-free config

autorag lite init \
  --search-paths "/path/to/documents,/path/to/notes" \
  --workspace "/path/to/workspace" \
  --memory-path "/path/to/memory.json"

lite init writes the configured model-free lifecycle config. Use --force only when intentionally replacing an existing config, and target it with an explicit path (--config or AUTORAG_CONFIG); --force refuses to replace the implicit ~/.autorag/config.json. Explicit user paths win; otherwise propose one to three document-dense roots and get approval before indexing. Supported parsed formats are md, markdown, txt, text, pdf, docx, pptx, xlsx, xls, hwp, hwpx, and eml. Legacy .doc is not a supported parsed format.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

autorag-lite-setup is a skill published in the GitHub repository Marker-Inc-Korea/AutoRAG (5,127 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 65 tokens to every session and 3,116 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-12.
