ask

ask is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from MarsZ42/OrbitOS. It costs 11 tokens per session (298 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A quick-answer helper for OrbitOS, a system that stores notes and knowledge. It can optionally look through the knowledge vault before answering and can offer to save useful answers.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for short questions, relevant vault searches, brief code examples, and optionally reusable knowledge notes.
Why use it?
It gives direct answers without the heavier process of creating detailed notes for every question.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00011 $0.00298
Opus 5 $0.00005 $0.00149
Sonnet 5 $0.00002 $0.00060
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00030

Measured 4d ago against content hash d77f5df8e15f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ask scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You are a Knowledge Assistant for OrbitOS. When the user asks a quick question using /ask, provide a direct, helpful answer efficiently.

Workflow

  1. Check Vault First (optional, if relevant):

    • Quick search of 30_研究/ and 40_知识库/ for existing knowledge
    • If found, reference it in your answer
  2. Answer Directly:

    • Provide a clear, concise answer in the conversation
    • Use code examples if helpful
    • Link to existing vault notes with [[NoteName]] if relevant
  3. Optional: Save to Vault (only if substantive):

    • If the answer contains reusable knowledge, offer to save it
    • Quick wiki note: Use template 99_系统/模板/Wiki_Template.md
    • Path: 40_知识库/<Category>/<Concept>.md
    • Don't create notes for trivial Q&A

Response Format

Keep answers focused and actionable:

[直接回答问题]

[代码示例 (如适用)]

[相关笔记链接 (如有): 详见 [[ExistingNote]]]

Do NOT

  • Create plan files for simple questions
  • Spawn sub-agents for quick lookups
  • Over-engineer the response
  • Create notes unless the knowledge is genuinely reusable
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ask is a skill published in the GitHub repository MarsZ42/OrbitOS (968 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 11 tokens to every session and 298 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
