agentplaybooks-tools

agentplaybooks-tools is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from matebenyovszky/agentplaybooks. It costs 36 tokens per session (1,003 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A setup guide for connecting AgentPlaybooks skills and external tool services to Hermes, an AI coding assistant. It covers the command-line setup, sign-in, profiles, and recovery steps.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check the command-line tool, connect a playbook's tool service, install its skills, and configure the intended Hermes profile.
Why use it?
It reduces confusion when making shared skills or remote tools available to Hermes. It also explains prerequisites and avoids asking for secret keys in chat.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00036 $0.01003
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00401
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00201
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00100

Security

Grade A, and why

agentplaybooks-tools scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AgentPlaybooks skills and tools in Hermes

Use the AgentPlaybooks CLI (apb) to make a playbook's skills and tools available to Hermes. Work in the project directory unless the user requests the global scope. Set HERMES_HOME before running commands when a non-default Hermes profile is the intended target.

Check the CLI

Run apb --version. If the CLI is missing, explain that Node.js 20+ and @agentplaybooks/cli must be installed separately. For a remote Hermes gateway, verify Node.js and apb on the gateway host/container, not just on the desktop client; the CLI must be able to write the selected gateway profile. This skill does not install software or run commands by itself.

Connect MCP/OpenAPI tools and install skills

  1. For private playbooks or hosted management operations, authenticate the CLI with apb login. Never ask for an API key in chat.
  2. Preview apb connect <guid> --target=hermes and explain that it adds the hosted playbook MCP endpoint to the selected Hermes profile. This connection exposes that playbook's MCP tools, including its configured federated MCP/OpenAPI tools.
  3. The plan reports the required environment variable. Ask the user to configure a playbook-scoped API key in the selected Hermes profile's secret environment; do not request or print the value.
  4. After the user reviews and approves the planned local change, run apb connect <guid> --target=hermes --apply.
  5. To install private skills locally, separately preview apb pull <guid> ., then after review run apb pull <guid> . --apply.
  6. Preview apb sync . --target=hermes. Explain that it registers the pulled skills and merges MCP definitions from the local project into the selected Hermes profile's config.yaml. After review, apply with apb sync . --target=hermes --apply.

Public skills can also be installed directly from the playbook's /.well-known/skills/ URL. For an account-wide connection, preview apb connect --account --target=hermes; after review, apply with apb connect --account --target=hermes --apply.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
