sandcastle: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/verify/SKILL.md

verify is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from mattpocock/sandcastle. It costs 55 tokens per session (2,909 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An end-to-end verification procedure for Sandcastle changes using a real coding agent in an isolated test environment. It builds the package, installs it like a user would, runs it in a temporary project, and checks the resulting behavior.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps verify fixes and changes by creating a temporary Git project, running Sandcastle commands and scripts, repeating runs, testing failure cases, and reviewing the recorded result.
Why use it?
A mocked test suite cannot prove that the real agent, container, package installation, Git branch, and cleanup work together. This procedure checks those connections directly without affecting the developer's real files or remote repositories.

About the project

Sandcastle is a TypeScript library that runs AI coding agents inside isolated sandboxes and merges their branch changes back into a project. It is used to run agents in parallel, build review pipelines, or coordinate agent work through providers such as Docker, Podman, or Vercel.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00055 $0.02909
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.01164
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00582

Security

Grade A, and why

verify scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Verify Sandcastle

Verification is essential to how Sandcastle works. Sandcastle's job is a seam: a real agent CLI, in a real container, committing onto a real branch of a real repo, and cleaning up after itself. The test suite mocks every agent and every sandbox, so it proves the logic and nothing about those seams. A change is unfinished until a run proves it: reading code gives you a hypothesis, and only a run gives you a verdict. Run the suite and a world on every change.

Worlds

A world is one run's isolated playground. It lives under $TMPDIR/sandcastle-verify/<run id>/ and holds:

  • a scratch git project with a commit on main;
  • a local bare remote as its origin;
  • the Sandcastle under test, packed and installed into the project as @ai-hero/sandcastle, the way a user installs it;
  • a HOME and a TMPDIR (<world>/tmp) of its own.

Inside a world you verify freely, as a user would: run sandcastle init, write prompts, commit, write a script that calls run(), run it twice, break it on purpose. Nothing you do reaches this checkout, Matt's HOME, or a real remote, and the ledger proves it.

npm run verify:world # builds dist, creates a world, prints its run id (alone on stdout)

The run id is the only handle. Every later verb takes it first, and there is no default world. Shell variables don't survive between your commands, so write the id out each time:

Verb What it does
npm run -s verify -- doctor [run] Sandbox engines, keys present (names only), each agent's cheapest model; whether the world matches the checkout
npm run -s verify -- sandcastle <run> <args…> The world's installed sandcastle CLI
npm run -s verify -- tsx <run> <file> [args…] A TypeScript file in the project, such as .sandcastle/main.ts or your own script
npm run -s verify -- sh <run> <cmd> [args…] Any command (npm install, git), in the world
npm run -s verify -- ledger <run> What the runs left behind, in a new LEDGER-<n>.md; exit 1 on any leak
npm run -s verify -- cleanup <run> / --all Removes the world's containers, images and worktrees, and nothing else
npm run -s verify -- dir <run> The world's directory
npm run -s verify -- reap [--delete] [<p>:<id>…] Sandboxes alive on each remote provider whose key is present; exit 1 while any is. --delete removes Sandcastle's

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

verify is a skill published in the GitHub repository mattpocock/sandcastle (8,876 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 55 tokens to every session and 2,909 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-31.
