rd-doctor

rd-doctor is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Merck/ReactiveDynamics.jl. It costs 87 tokens per session (1,576 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Phase 3 of an rd-study — prove a validate-clean ReactiveDynamics model is actually plausible before any number is quoted. Runs nine checks (transitions fire, contention exists, the intended resource binds, modality intent, horizon sufficiency, bounded pools, ledger wired, stochasticity) against the brief's…

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00087 $0.01576
Opus 5.5 $0.00035 $0.00630
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00315
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00158

Security

Grade A, and why

rd-doctor scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 77 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

rd-doctor — the plausibility gate

validate proved the document is well-formed. It proved nothing about whether the model is about the user's system. A schema-clean model can be confident nonsense, and the failure mode of this entire workflow is a beautifully formatted wrong answer. This phase is the gate that stands between the two.

Your output is DOCTOR.md: every line machine-produced evidence, not an opinion. agent/studies/marginal_scientist/DOCTOR.md is the exemplar.

Run it

julia --project=. agent/scripts/rdx.jl diagnose <model> --host=<host.jl> --seed=1 \
  --expect-binds=scientist --expect-reusable=scientist --tally=launch

The --expect-* flags come from the brief's pre-registered failure modes — do not invent them here. A check whose expectation was written before the run existed is evidence; one you chose after seeing the output is decoration. If the brief didn't pre-register them, go back and fix the brief, then run.

Exit 0 = clear to report. Exit 1 = at least one failing check; you may not quote a number. Diagnose every arm, not just the baseline — an arm that changes the lever can change which resource binds.

The nine checks

Check Severity Asks
transitions_fire fail did every transition spawn at least once?
completions_exist fail did anything finish?
contention_exists fail does anything actually run out?
intended_resource_binds fail is the scarce thing the one the brief named?
modality_intent fail are the resources the brief called reusable declared conserved?
horizon_sufficient warn is anything still in flight at the end; are pools still trending?
bounded_pools warn is anything growing without limit that isn't a declared tally?
ledger_wired warn do reward and cost both move?
stochasticity warn is any outcome actually uncertain?

contention_exists is the one that matters

If nothing binds, there is no study. A model where every transition always gets what it asks for is an accounting identity with extra steps, and the marginal value it reports is just the accounting cost. When this check fails, do not tune the model until it passes — go back to the user and report the finding: four scientists are enough; the fifth is worth their loaded cost and no more. That is a real, valuable, publishable answer, and manufacturing scarcity to avoid delivering it is the worst thing you can do in this workflow.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

rd-doctor is a skill published in the GitHub repository Merck/ReactiveDynamics.jl (17 stars, last pushed 25d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 87 tokens to every session and 1,576 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-07.
