rd-study

rd-study is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Merck/ReactiveDynamics.jl. It costs 111 tokens per session (1,282 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Run a decision study on a resource-constrained, timed process using ReactiveDynamics.jl — answer questions like "what is the fifth scientist worth", "where is the bottleneck", "should we take this deal", "how much capacity do we need". Use when someone needs a defensible number out of a system where something binds…

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00111 $0.01282
Opus 5.5 $0.00044 $0.00513
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00256
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00128

Security

Grade A, and why

rd-study scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 78 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

rd-study — a decision study, end to end

You are running a study, not building software. The deliverable is a number with an error bar, a decision rule that uses it, and enough evidence that someone can act on it. The model is instrumentation.

The one qualifying test

Before anything else, check the question against three conditions. A simulation earns its cost only when all three hold:

  1. Something binds — a finite resource that runs out (headcount, bench, line capacity, cash, reviewers).
  2. Something takes time — work occupies that resource for a while before yielding anything.
  3. Something is decided mid-flight — when demands collide, something has to choose who waits.

Two out of three is a spreadsheet. Say so plainly and offer the arithmetic instead — you will have saved the user a week. Three out of three and the answer is a marginal response to relieving a constraint, which has no closed form; that is the study.

Run this test out loud in your first response. It is the highest-value thing in this skill.

The four phases

Each has its own skill. Read the phase skill when you enter the phase, not before — they are long and only one applies at a time.

Phase Skill Produces Done when
1. Frame rd-frame BRIEF.md every slot is filled and the failure modes are pre-registered
2. Author rd-author model.rdj.json (+ one file per arm) rdx validate returns zero diagnostics
3. Diagnose rd-doctor DOCTOR.md rdx diagnose exits 0, or every failure is understood and stated
4. Report rd-report FINDINGS.md the headline, the decision rule, and the caveats are all in it

The gates are real. Do not author before the brief's slots are filled — you will interview the user twice. Do not quote a number before DIAGNOSE passes — a schema-clean model can be confident nonsense, and the failure mode of this whole workflow is a beautifully formatted wrong answer. If DIAGNOSE fails, go back to AUTHOR; the brief's pre-registered failure modes exist precisely so that this bounce is a short loop and not a redesign.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

rd-study is a skill published in the GitHub repository Merck/ReactiveDynamics.jl (17 stars, last pushed 25d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 111 tokens to every session and 1,282 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-07.
