compress-files

compress-files is a skill for Claude Code from micompress/micompress-mcp. It costs 52 tokens per session (358 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A file-compression workflow for MiCompress, an online service that makes files smaller. It can work with local files or files available at a public link, including images, PDFs, video, audio, Office documents, and archives.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to compress a file, optionally resize an image, choose lossless or smaller-output settings, and report where the result was saved or downloaded.
Why use it?
It helps meet email size limits, speed up web pages, and make files easier to share while offering settings for keeping quality or reducing size further.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00052 $0.00358
Opus 5.5 $0.00021 $0.00143
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00072
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00036

Security

Grade A, and why

compress-files scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Compress files with MiCompress

Two MiCompress servers come with this plugin. Pick by where the file is:

  • File on this computer (a path such as ./assets/photo.png): use the local server's compress_file. It writes the smaller copy next to the original with a -min suffix, or to output_path if the user names one. Only overwrite the original when the user asks for it.
  • File at a public link (a direct download link, or a Google Drive or Dropbox share link): use compress_file_from_url. It returns a download link valid for 24 hours. If the result says the job is still processing, call get_compression_result with its job ID after a short wait.

Choosing a preset:

Goal Preset
Keep quality identical (print, archives, legal documents) lossless
Everyday use — the default recommended
Smallest possible file, e.g. to get under an email limit extreme

For images headed to a web page, also pass max_width (for example 1600 for full-width images, 800 for thumbnails).

After compressing, tell the user the size before and after and where the result is. If a format is rejected, call list_supported_formats and say which formats are supported.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
