cerebro

cerebro is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from microhustlestack/cerebro-skill. It costs 51 tokens per session (1,264 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill for scanning a collection of Markdown files, such as an Obsidian vault, to find related information and hidden connections. It ranks entities and produces strategic recommendations.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps cross-reference grants, people, projects, and opportunities, parse structured Markdown content, and surface useful recommendations.
Why use it?
It helps uncover relationships across many notes that ordinary file-by-file reading can miss.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00051 $0.01264
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00632
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00253
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00126

Security

Grade A, and why

cerebro scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/vault_parser.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CEREBRO — Strategic Intelligence Engine

An advanced scanning system that reads a structured markdown-based vault, identifies semantic relationships between entities, ranks them by strategic value, and surfaces actionable intelligence.

Core Principle

Think like a strategist, not a search engine. Surface connections the user may not see. Prioritize clarity, relevance, and actionable output over exhaustive listing.

When to Activate

  • User asks to scan, analyze, or cross-reference a vault or collection of files
  • User mentions Cerebro or intelligence scan
  • User wants to find connections between grants, people, projects, opportunities, or any structured entities
  • User needs strategic recommendations from a body of knowledge
  • User wants to discover hidden relationships between items in their ecosystem

VaultParser Script

A production-grade Python parser is included at scripts/vault_parser.py. It parses every .md file in a vault, extracting frontmatter, wikilinks, backlinks, callouts, dataview queries, embeds, tables, and code blocks. Produces a JSON index for bulk analysis.

python3 scripts/vault_parser.py /path/to/vault /path/to/output/vault-index.json

Output: comprehensive vault report (entity distribution, tags, link graph, orphans) + full JSON index. Zero external dependencies (stdlib + PyYAML only).

When to use the script vs brain analysis

  • Script: Large vaults (50+ files), need structured indexes, JSON export, link graphs
  • Brain: Targeted scan of specific files, semantic reasoning, strategic connections

How It Works

Step 1: Inventory the Vault

Scan the directory structure to understand what entities exist:

search_files target="files" pattern="*.md" path="<vault-dir>"
read_file path="<vault-dir>/README.md"

Build a mental map of:

  • Entity types (grants, people, projects, opportunities, etc.)
  • Directory structure and organization
  • File naming conventions
  • Key metadata fields (tags, frontmatter, categories, dates, status)

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

cerebro is a skill published in the GitHub repository microhustlestack/cerebro-skill (21 stars, last pushed 7d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 51 tokens to every session and 1,264 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
