entra-app-registration

entra-app-registration is a skill for Claude Code from microsoft/azure-skills. It costs 93 tokens per session (1,799 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of entra-app-registration, MIT.

A guide for registering applications with Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft's cloud identity service, and connecting them to OAuth 2.0 authentication. MSAL is Microsoft's library for implementing that sign-in process in code.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for creating app registrations, configuring redirect URLs and API permissions, generating service principals, and integrating authentication with MSAL.
Why use it?
It explains the identity settings and permissions an application needs before it can authenticate users or access Azure resources.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00093 $0.01799
Opus 5 $0.00046 $0.00899
Sonnet 5 $0.00019 $0.00360
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00180

Security

Grade A, and why

entra-app-registration scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Overview

Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) is Microsoft's cloud-based identity and access management service. App registrations allow applications to authenticate users and access Azure resources securely.

Key Concepts

Concept Description
App Registration Configuration that allows an app to use Microsoft identity platform
Application (Client) ID Unique identifier for your application
Tenant ID Unique identifier for your Azure AD tenant/directory
Client Secret Password for the application (confidential clients only)
Redirect URI URL where authentication responses are sent
API Permissions Access scopes your app requests
Service Principal Identity created in your tenant when you register an app

Application Types

Type Use Case
Web Application Server-side apps, APIs
Single Page App (SPA) JavaScript/React/Angular apps
Mobile/Native App Desktop, mobile apps
Daemon/Service Background services, APIs

Core Workflow

Step 1: Register the Application

Create an app registration in the Azure portal or using Azure CLI.

Portal Method:

  1. Navigate to Azure Portal → Microsoft Entra ID → App registrations
  2. Click "New registration"
  3. Provide name, supported account types, and redirect URI
  4. Click "Register"

CLI Method: See references/cli-commands.md IaC Method: See references/BICEP-EXAMPLE.bicep

It's highly recommended to use the IaC to manage Entra app registration if you already use IaC in your project, need a scalable solution for managing lots of app registrations or need fine-grained audit history of the configuration changes.

Step 2: Configure Authentication

Set up authentication settings based on your application type.

  • Web Apps: Add redirect URIs, enable ID tokens if needed
  • SPAs: Add redirect URIs, enable implicit grant flow if necessary
  • Mobile/Desktop: Use http://localhost or custom URI scheme
  • Services: No redirect URI needed for client credentials flow

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
