product-compare

product-compare is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from microsoft/cat-agent-skills. It costs 50 tokens per session (261 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A product-comparison tool that builds a side-by-side table from a company product database, called a PIM extract. It shows differences and missing details using only that database.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps compare two product codes and explain which may fit a customer's needs. It is for store-associate product recommendations.
Why use it?
It prevents recommendations from relying on remembered or online specifications. Missing product data is shown clearly instead of being guessed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00050 $0.00261
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00104
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00052
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00026

Measured today against content hash dd96dd75f360, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

product-compare scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/product_compare.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Product Compare

Purpose

Attribute-level comparison from the PIM extract only (#3.1) - differences stated, missing shown as missing.

When to use

Whenever the question carries two SKUs.

Inputs

resolved.json + config/pim-extract.json.

Steps

  1. Run scripts/product_compare.py --resolved resolved.json --pim pim-extract.json --out compared.json
  2. Present the table verbatim; the recommendation narrative may explain fit-to-need but never invents an attribute.

Output

compared.json - the {product_comparison} hop.

Grounding requirements

Every attribute cites the PIM extract.

Constraints

  • No specs from memory or the internet; PIM only (#3.1).

Escalation / uncertainty

SKU missing from PIM: shown as missing + escalation to the PIM steward.

Files

What ships with it

10 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
