schedule-optimize

schedule-optimize is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from microsoft/cat-agent-skills. It costs 64 tokens per session (363 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A scheduling tool that orders production work into product-family campaigns while considering material limits and protecting committed orders.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after checking capacity to sequence a production week and compare changeover time and possible lateness.
Why use it?
It makes the cost of changing from one product family to another visible by comparing a simple due-date order with the proposed order. It uses a heuristic, so it is an aid rather than a guaranteed best solution.

About the project

microsoft/cat-agent-skills is a static website that catalogs reusable instruction sets and related packages for AI agents. People use it to search, filter, rate, and download skills for Cowork, Copilot Studio, and Scout, along with Copilot plugins and Scout automations. The catalogue entries are the skills, instructions, plugins, and settings displayed by the site.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00064 $0.00363
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.00145
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00073
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00036

Security

Grade A, and why

schedule-optimize scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/sequence_optimize.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Schedule Optimize

Purpose

Deterministic sequencing: family campaigns (#3) inside material gates (#2), committed orders protected (#4); reports the naive due-date sequence alongside so the changeover cost of "obvious" ordering is visible.

When to use

After capacity-check in every run.

Inputs

checked.json + changeovers.json (family-to-family hours matrix).

Steps

  1. Validate against the contract.
  2. Run scripts/sequence_optimize.py --checked checked.json --changeovers changeovers.json --out optimized.json
  3. Quote both sequences and both changeover totals verbatim. If the naive sequence misses a committed order once changeovers are counted, lead with that - it is the whole point.
  4. This is a heuristic, not a solver (#5 graduation note); say so when precision is questioned.

Output

optimized.json - the {schedule} hop.

Grounding requirements

Changeover numbers cite the matrix; lateness calls cite due dates and commitments.

Constraints

  • Sequencing is engine-only; the model never hand-edits a sequence, and never trades a committed order for changeover savings (#4.1).

Escalation / uncertainty

Overload (#1.2) or unresolvable lateness: escalate to the planner with the tradeoff stated.

Files

What ships with it

4 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

schedule-optimize is a skill published in the GitHub repository microsoft/cat-agent-skills (93 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 64 tokens to every session and 363 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-28.
