cspell-config

cspell-config is a skill for Claude Code from microsoft/hve-core. It costs 41 tokens per session (2,447 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A project-specific configuration helper for cspell, a tool that checks spelling in code and documents. It finds the active configuration and dictionaries before adding project words or ignored paths.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to add accepted project vocabulary, maintain custom word lists, and align ignored paths with the project's existing ignore files.
Why use it?
It reduces false spelling warnings for names, technical terms, and generated or irrelevant files. It also avoids changing the wrong configuration when a project has several possible config files.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00041 $0.02447
Opus 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00979
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00489
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00245

Security

Grade A, and why

cspell-config scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Update cspell Configuration with Project-Specific Words and Ignores

Context

  • Goal: Add commonly used project-specific words to the cspell configuration, alphabetize the words list, and add useful ignorePaths aligned with the project's ignore files.
  • cspell supports multiple config formats and file names. Detect which format the project uses rather than assuming any specific one.
  • Projects may also use custom dictionary files, such as .txt word lists, organized in a dedicated directory. Discover and respect existing dictionary structure.
  • Configuration authority is invocation-bound, not a fixed ranking of file locations. The command that runs cspell determines the base configuration, cspell's own per-file lookup determines overlays, and a custom dictionary participates only when an effective configuration defines and enables it. File enumeration order never establishes authority.

Required Steps

Step 1: Detect Project Context and the Authoritative Command

  1. Identify the project's primary language and package manager by inspecting files at the workspace root, for example package.json, pyproject.toml, Cargo.toml, go.mod, *.csproj, pom.xml, and Gemfile.
  2. Determine how cspell is installed or available. Check for a project dependency, an installed command with cspell --version, or npx or equivalent availability. If cspell is not available, ask the user for their preferred installation method.
  3. Record the installed cspell version. The resolution details below describe cspell 10.x behavior. When the project pins a different major version, confirm behavior against that version's documentation or observed output before relying on any ordering claim.
  4. Check for an existing spell-check script in the project's task runner, for example package.json scripts, Makefile targets, justfile recipes, or pyproject.toml scripts. Use the project command when one exists. It is the authority for the rest of this workflow.
  5. From that command, capture the invocation working directory, the file globs it passes, any explicit --config, and any config-search controls such as --no-config-search, --config-search, --stop-config-search-at, or an equivalent setting. These inputs determine which configuration the project actually uses.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
