playwright-cli: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/playwright-triage/SKILL.md

playwright-triage is a skill for Claude Code from microsoft/playwright-cli. It costs 140 tokens per session (1,763 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An automated workflow for investigating and fixing one issue in the Playwright CLI project, a command-line tool for controlling web browsers. It runs inside a GitHub Actions issue-triage process, which is an automated job started by issue labels or a maintainer.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps triage Playwright CLI bug reports and feature requests, run the project's build, tests, and lint checks, and prepare changes in the Playwright repository.
Why use it?
It gives maintainers a repeatable way to reproduce reported problems, apply a fix, and check the relevant code without handling every triage step manually.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00140 $0.01763
Opus 5.5 $0.00056 $0.00705
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00028 $0.00353
Haiku 4.5 $0.00014 $0.00176

Security

Grade A, and why

playwright-triage scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Playwright CLI Issue Triage

You run unattended in the Issue triage workflow of microsoft/playwright-cli. First read the shared guide, $AGENT_GUIDES_DIR/triage.md, a copy of microsoft/playwright/.github/actions/run-agent/guides/triage.md, and then CLAUDE.md, both in full. The guide says how to triage an issue in any Playwright repo. CLAUDE.md says how to build, test and lint this one. This file covers what neither has: where the code is, the checkouts, how to run a published version, and the outcome that this repo adds, a fix in microsoft/playwright.

Where the code is

This repo is the npm package @playwright/cli: playwright-cli.js with its update check, skillCheck.js, the README, the skill in skills/playwright-cli/ and some tests of the packaged CLI. package.json pins the alpha of playwright and playwright-core that the package runs. The CLI is in microsoft/playwright, in packages/playwright-core/src/tools/: cli-client/ has the commands and their options, cli-daemon/ has the daemon that keeps the browser open between commands, and backend/ has the tools that the commands run. Most bugs and most feature requests are fixed there.

Fix a bug here only when the cause is in a file that this repo owns. skills/playwright-cli/ is a copy of packages/playwright-core/src/tools/skills/playwright-cli/, which scripts/update.js refreshes on a roll, so its fix is upstream too.

The checkouts

$REPO_DIR is the checkout of microsoft/playwright-cli that the guide describes. npm ci ran in it, and the browsers of the pinned version are installed. The CLI uses Google Chrome from the runner image by default. When it is missing, install it with npx playwright install chrome. The clone is shallow: run git fetch --unshallow --tags origin in it before you need its history.

$PLAYWRIGHT_DIR is a clone of microsoft/playwright at the tip of main, next to $REPO_DIR. npm ci and npm run build ran in it, and Chromium, Firefox and WebKit are installed. It is tip-of-tree for this repo: reproduce there, as a test in its tests/mcp/cli-*.spec.ts, with the cli fixture of tests/mcp/cli-fixtures.ts. npm run test-playwright-cli runs those tests. Read its AGENTS.md in full before you write the test. It says how to build, test and lint it. The clone has the full history, without file contents until git needs them, so git log and git tag --contains work there.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
