analyze-variants

analyze-variants is a skill for Claude Code from microsoft/power-platform-skills. It costs 26 tokens per session (788 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A method for analysing process variants, which are distinct paths that cases can take through a process. It also supports investigating repeated work and specific cases.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find common or slow variants, identify cases with repeated work, inspect related transitions, and investigate a named case.
Why use it?
It helps distinguish common paths, slow paths, rework, and unusual cases without confusing average variant duration with case-level evidence.

About the project

microsoft/power-platform-skills is a plugin marketplace containing reusable skills, agents, and commands for developing with Microsoft Power Platform. Developers use it to build and deploy Power Pages sites, model-driven Power Apps, and related solutions through Claude Code or GitHub Copilot. The catalogue entries are the marketplace's included skills, agents, plugins, and other agent components.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00026 $0.00788
Opus 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00315
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00158
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00079

Security

Grade A, and why

analyze-variants scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 60 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Variants, rework and exact cases

Use the shared contract and filters/units. Choose the branch answering the question; do not run a variant overview before an exact-case or rework request.

Ordered traces

Common or slow variants

  1. get_variants_with_metrics_v2 {S,filterOptions:F,itemsPerPage:5,itemsToSkip:0,metricToSortBy:"CaseCount",sortOrder:"Descending"}.
  2. Only if mean-case slowness still needs comparison, repeat with metricToSortBy:"CaseDuration". If the first complete result already answers it, stop. CaseDuration is a mean; variant Duration is not its substitute.

Cases with repeated work

  1. Copy F, appending to caseMetricConditionFilters: {metric:"CaseReworkCount",comparisonOperator:"GreaterThan",values:[0],isInclusive:true}.
  2. get_cases_with_metrics_v2 {S,filterOptions:Fplus,itemsPerPage:5,itemsToSkip:0,metricToSortBy:"ReworkCount",sortOrder:"Descending"}. A native count suffices; no formula or saved metric is needed.
  3. Only for unresolved transition evidence: get_edges_with_metrics_v2 {S,filterOptions:Fplus,itemsPerPage:10,itemsToSkip:0}. No edge sort exists; mark incomplete evidence page-local.

A specific case

  1. Reuse details to identify the metadata-proven case-key attribute K and its type T. Bind the exact user/returned value X, e.g. synthetic "Demo-17".
  2. Append {attributeName:K,dataType:T,attributeValues:[X],isInclusive:true} to F's attributeValueFilters; call get_cases_with_metrics_v2 {S,filterOptions:Fcase,itemsPerPage:5,itemsToSkip:0}.
  3. An optional same-cohort bottleneck/edge query can summarize activities/handoffs. If no exposed key expresses the case, stop; do not scan all cases or invent caseId.

Guardrails

Continue relevant pages or drilldowns until the question is answered or evidence cannot discriminate; no fixed call/total-row quota or automatic repeated queries. Show at most five headline rows by default. Use filterOptions, itemsPerPage and itemsToSkip, not filters, metrics, limit or offset. No variantId filter exists. For a user-specified sequence use only discovered attribute values and the advertised sequence-filter schema; do not reconstruct unavailable variant Values. No event-timeline or conformance-check tool exists. Rework/variation alone proves neither event order nor a conformance violation. Retain scope, versions, metric units and partial coverage.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
