wicked-garden-repo-learn

wicked-garden-repo-learn is a skill for Claude Code from mikeparcewski/wicked-garden. It costs 253 tokens per session (4,204 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository-learning workflow for understanding an unfamiliar codebase by combining recent change activity with the code other parts depend on. It records findings as proposed memories and policies for a human to review, rather than changing the project record automatically.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to rank active areas from Git history, find central code and its impact, read the important implementation, and prepare reviewable notes about what is true and what should remain a rule.
Why use it?
It gives the agent a focused way to learn a large repository without reading everything or confusing frequently changed code with structurally important code. Human review prevents unverified findings from becoming project rules.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00253 $0.04204
Opus 5.5 $0.00101 $0.01682
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00051 $0.00841
Haiku 4.5 $0.00025 $0.00420

Security

Grade A, and why

wicked-garden-repo-learn scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

wicked-garden-repo-learn — churn-led repo learning that captures back

A repo teaches you where to look if you follow two independent signals at once: temporal (where the code churns) and structural (what the rest of the system depends on). This skill walks the intersection, reads it for real, and captures the learning back as estate proposals — knowledge (what is true, read from the code) and policies (what should hold); a memory only for what you witnessed or were told. Garden ORCHESTRATES; estate GROUNDS (graph + read) and RECEIVES (the proposal queue); a human APPROVES — every capture is an inert proposal the studio Memories / Policies surfaces review, never an asserted fact.

Why churn is a separate step: estate's RankHotspots is structural PageRank, not temporal — it never sees git history. Churn is the gap this skill fills, with a bounded, sampled git-log method; the two signals meet in § Cross-reference.

Runtime

Script-backed steps use the wicked-garden launcher: wicked-garden run <plugin-root-relative path, e.g. scripts/…> [args]. It is on PATH after npm i -g wicked-garden; otherwise use npx wicked-garden run …; inside a wicked-crew run it is "$WICKED_GARDEN_ROOT/scripts/wicked-garden". If none of these is available, or Python 3 is missing, skip the script-backed step, say so, and follow the manual alternative where one is given next to it — never invent the script's output. Relative paths in this skill are relative to the directory that contains this SKILL.md.

The three phases (= wicked-crew's three units)

# Phase (crew unit) Produces Where
1 churn ranked active paths/areas over a window, top-N capped refs/churn-sampling.md
2 hotspots (hotspots + blast-radius, then READ) most-central symbols + blast-radius of the churn set, and real understanding of the load-bearing, volatile code wicked-garden-search (reused — do NOT reimplement) + § Read the intersection
3 capture memories AND policies as inert proposal.submit entries refs/capture-proposals.md

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
