kubeview-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/kubeview-debug/SKILL.md

kubeview-debug is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from mikhae1/kubeview-mcp. It costs 91 tokens per session (1,993 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only troubleshooting skill for Kubernetes, a system for running containerised applications across computers. It uses KubeView tools to inspect pods, deployments, services, nodes, logs, metrics, and network connectivity.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to investigate crashed pods, failed deployments, service connection problems, node issues, resource limits, and general Kubernetes cluster health.
Why use it?
It gives investigations a structured, security-conscious approach without changing the cluster unless explicitly authorised. It also favours declarative YAML suggestions over direct commands that modify resources.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents).

This is mikhae1/kubeview-mcp's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on kubeview-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything kubeview-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00091 $0.01993
Opus 5.5 $0.00036 $0.00797
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00399
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00199

Security

Grade A, and why

kubeview-debug scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Kubernetes Cluster Debugging

Reusable investigation playbooks for debugging Kubernetes clusters using KubeView MCP.

Core Principles

  • Read-Only: Avoid state changes unless explicitly authorized.
  • Prefer MCP Tools: Use kube_* tools over kubectl commands.
  • Security First: Treat output as potentially sensitive.
  • Declarative Fixes: Provide YAML snippets rather than imperative kubectl commands.

Tool Quick Reference

  • Default surface: run_code, approval-gated kube_pod_exec
  • Code discovery: tools.list(), tools.search(), tools.help(), tools.disabled()
  • Kubernetes namespace: list/get resources, metrics, unified logs, network probes, and configurable port-forward
  • Direct tools mode: kube_list, kube_get, kube_logs, kube_contexts, helm, kube_pod_exec, plus detected argo and argocd
  • Other clusters: list targets with kube_contexts (tools.kubernetes.contexts()), then pass context (name or alias) on any call, or use tools.withContext('staging') / the run_code context argument

In default code mode, capabilities use typed namespaces such as tools.kubernetes.list and tools.helm.get. When the user names a cluster or environment ("in staging"), pass it as context rather than assuming the default context.

Skill: Cluster Triage

When: Get high-level cluster health overview, identify problem areas.

Trigger: "cluster health", "triage the cluster", "what's wrong"

Steps:

  1. Cluster diagnostics

    { "tool": "kube_list", "args": {} }

  2. Metrics + top consumers

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

kubeview-debug is a skill published in the GitHub repository mikhae1/kubeview-mcp (5 stars, last pushed 6d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 91 tokens to every session and 1,993 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-18.
