setup-sending-domain

setup-sending-domain is a skill for Claude Code from Misar-AI/misarmail-mcp. It costs 49 tokens per session (398 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A procedure for adding and verifying a custom email-sending domain in MisarMail. It covers DNS records for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, which help receiving mail services verify that messages are legitimate.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to add a domain, publish and check its DNS records, configure incoming mail routing, and monitor warm-up before sending at higher volume.
Why use it?
It reduces mistakes when connecting a domain and helps avoid delivery problems caused by missing verification or poor sender reputation.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00049 $0.00398
Opus 5 $0.00024 $0.00199
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00080
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00040

Security

Grade A, and why

setup-sending-domain scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Set up a sending domain

1. Add it

add_domain returns the DNS records to publish. Give the user the exact record type, host, and value — a paraphrase produces a broken record.

2. Wait, then verify

verify_domain re-checks DNS. Propagation takes minutes to 48 hours, so a failure right after publishing is expected rather than an error. Say that instead of letting the user think something is wrong.

check_dmarc shows what is actually resolving publicly, which is the fastest way to spot a record pasted into the wrong host (a very common mistake: _dmarc.example.com published as _dmarc.example.com.example.com).

3. Warm up before volume

get_warmup_status — a new domain has no reputation. Ramping gradually is what separates a domain that lands in the inbox from one that lands in spam permanently. Do not let a user send a large first campaign from a brand-new domain without flagging the risk.

DMARC policy

Start at p=none (monitor only), then move to quarantine and finally reject once check_dmarc shows SPF and DKIM aligned and passing. Jumping straight to p=reject before alignment is confirmed silently blackholes legitimate mail.

Inbound

configure_inbound_domain routes replies into the unified inbox and returns the MX record to publish. Use a subdomain (reply.example.com) so it cannot interfere with the organisation's primary mail.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
