tether

tether is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from moneycaringcoder/herdr-tether. It costs 30 tokens per session (2,827 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A control surface for viewing and managing long-running development commands and workloads through Tether, a service that tracks them.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to list visible repositories and workloads, start commands, reopen or restart workloads, and stop or remove them.
Why use it?
It avoids relying on terminal-session tools or internal implementation details to find and control durable workloads.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00030 $0.02827
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.01413
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00565
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00283

Security

Grade A, and why

tether scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Tether

Use Tether as the visibility and lifecycle boundary for durable development workloads. Hermes is a configurable reference adapter only: do not import, embed, or require Hermes in Tether, and do not bypass Tether with direct tmux commands.

Install

Choose the source that matches the Tether installation:

Stable v0.8.0:

hermes skills install https://raw.githubusercontent.com/moneycaringcoder/herdr-tether/v0.8.0/integrations/hermes/SKILL.md

Development (main):

hermes skills install https://raw.githubusercontent.com/moneycaringcoder/herdr-tether/main/integrations/hermes/SKILL.md

Immutable reviewed commit:

TETHER_SKILL_REF=FULL_COMMIT_SHA_YOU_REVIEWED
hermes skills install "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/moneycaringcoder/herdr-tether/${TETHER_SKILL_REF}/integrations/hermes/SKILL.md"

The skill is available in new Hermes sessions after installation.

When to Use

Use this skill when a user wants to:

  • see repositories or durable workloads visible to Tether;
  • start a user-chosen command in a Tether-owned workload;
  • reopen, restart, stop, or remove a specific Tether-owned workload;
  • compare workload state across configured local and remote hosts;
  • configure and view an opt-in orchestration group; or
  • hand an approved group to Herdr's interactive Observer or Mission Control surface when the installed Tether and Herdr versions support it.

Preflight

  1. Resolve the Tether executable from the current environment. Use herdr-tether unless the user supplied another executable name. Do not guess an absolute path.
  2. Run herdr-tether --version and herdr-tether snapshot. If either command is unavailable, explain that Tether must be installed and configured on the machine where Hermes executes.
  3. Parse snapshot stdout as JSON. Require schema_version to equal 1; if it does not, stop and report the unsupported version rather than guessing field meanings.
  4. Treat completion: "partial" as usable degraded data, not as an empty or complete inventory. Preserve each typed status when reporting why a host, repository scan, workload probe, or external catalog is incomplete.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

tether is a skill published in the GitHub repository moneycaringcoder/herdr-tether (5 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 30 tokens to every session and 2,827 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
