temporal-caching

temporal-caching is a skill for Claude Code from motlin/claude-code-plugins. It costs 51 tokens per session (296 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guide to using database change timestamps as cache validators, so a client can check whether data changed before downloading it again.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for incremental synchronization, polling, high-water marks, conditional requests, ETags, and HTTP 304 responses with temporal tables.
Why use it?
It reduces redundant data transfer and avoids refetching unchanged records, collections, or parent-child data.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00051 $0.00296
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00118
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00059
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00030

Security

Grade A, and why

temporal-caching scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 22d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Temporal Caching

In a system-time versioned table, system_from changes whenever a record changes, so it serves as a built-in cache validator. No separate version columns, ETag tables, or change tracking are needed. See the temporal-data:temporal-data skill for the underlying schema and query conventions.

Pattern Mechanism Best for
Global watermark Client stores max system_from of a collection and polls for newer records Feeds, dashboards, "what's new since I last checked"
Predicate watermark Parent stores max system_from of its children in a denormalized column "Have any of this user's blueprints changed?"
Item watermark system_from of the current row is the ETag; server returns 304 when it matches Single resources fetched repeatedly
Global + item Global for the list, item for detail views Feed page with detail drill-down
Files

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
