worktree

worktree is a skill for Claude Code from motlin/claude-code-plugins. It costs 38 tokens per session (312 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow for creating a Git worktree in a sibling folder on a named branch. A worktree is an extra working directory for the same repository.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to derive a branch name, create the worktree with the provided script, and optionally open it in a new terminal tab.
Why use it?
It lets you work on another branch in a separate folder without switching the branch in your current folder.

Runs only inside its plugin — its command needs a path that Claude Code sets for a plugin’s own hooks and for nothing else. Install the plugin, not this.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00038 $0.00312
Opus 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00125
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00062
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00031

Security

Grade A, and why

worktree scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 22d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Worktree

Resolve <plugin-root> before running plugin scripts:

  • In Claude Code, use ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}.
  • In Codex, use the plugin root that contains this skills/worktree/SKILL.md file.

Create the Worktree

Use the user's text as the branch name if it is already kebab-case (e.g., auth-feature); otherwise derive a short kebab-case name from it. From the repository root, run:

<plugin-root>/scripts/worktree.sh <branch-name>

On failure, stop and summarize the error. On success, report the worktree path.

Opening a Terminal Tab

Open a terminal tab in the worktree only if the user explicitly asks.

In iTerm:

osascript -e 'tell application "iTerm"
    tell current window
        create tab with default profile
        tell current tab
            tell current session
                write text "cd <worktree-absolute-path>"
            end tell
        end tell
    end tell
end tell'

In xfce4-terminal:

xfce4-terminal --tab --working-directory="<worktree-absolute-path>" -x bash -c "cd <worktree-absolute-path>; exec bash"
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

worktree is a skill published in the GitHub repository motlin/claude-code-plugins (20 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 312 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-19.
