mb-garden

mb-garden is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from mrvladd-d/memobank. It costs 20 tokens per session (1,079 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A maintenance workflow for Memory Bank documentation, a project folder that stores information an agent needs to understand a codebase. It checks the documents for drift, navigation problems, and hygiene issues.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a project has a `.memory-bank/` directory and you need to clean its documents, improve navigation, install optional linting and diagnostic scripts, or add related package commands.
Why use it?
It helps keep project context accurate and easier for agents to load, reducing confusion caused by stale or disconnected documentation.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.01079
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00540
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00216
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00108

Security

Grade A, and why

mb-garden scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (assets/mb-doctor.mjs, assets/mb-lint.mjs), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

mb-garden — Memory Bank maintenance (doc gardening)

  • What it does: maintains Memory Bank docs, fixes hygiene issues, and keeps navigation coherent.
  • Use it when: .memory-bank/ exists and you want to reduce drift, stale docs, or broken routing.
  • Input: an existing .memory-bank/.
  • Output: a cleaner Memory Bank, resolved hygiene issues, and optional CI support for ongoing maintenance.

Goal

Keep .memory-bank/ accurate, navigable, and cheap-to-prime. mb-garden owns maintenance and cleanup guidance. The current package also ships deterministic tool assets, but mb-lint and mb-doctor remain separate gates with separate roles.

Preconditions

  • .memory-bank/ exists.

Process

1) Install deterministic maintenance tools

If the repo doesn’t have the tools yet:

  1. Create scripts/mb-lint.mjs using assets/mb-lint.mjs.
  2. Create scripts/mb-doctor.mjs using assets/mb-doctor.mjs.
  3. Make them executable (optional).
  4. Add package scripts (optional): "mb:lint": "node scripts/mb-lint.mjs" and "mb:doctor": "node scripts/mb-doctor.mjs".

Current package location includes both tool assets under mb-garden/assets; this is a packaging detail, not conceptual ownership of the doctor readiness role.

Then run:

node scripts/mb-lint.mjs
node scripts/mb-doctor.mjs

Fix all ERROR findings:

  • missing YAML frontmatter (description + status)
  • broken links
  • missing folder index.md
  • invalid or missing schema-backed task records, including missing/invalid mandatory tier
  • obsolete .memory-bank/tasks/backlog.md or markdown task cards used as workflow state
  • old risk / risk.level task fields; task routing is only by task.tier

mb-lint is the structural/mechanical hygiene gate. mb-doctor is the workflow/autonomous readiness gate over mb-lint. Default mb-doctor is suitable for normal health checks and fresh skeletons. Run strict mode only after the JSON task queue exists: after /prd-to-tasks, before scheduler execution inside /autonomous, or before /autopilot when the queue is already prepared:

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

mb-garden is a skill published in the GitHub repository mrvladd-d/memobank (55 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 1,079 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
