assumption-audit

assumption-audit is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from msolecki/founder-os. It costs 37 tokens per session (1,602 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A process for listing the beliefs a plan depends on, removing claims already supported by evidence, and ranking the remaining beliefs by how costly they are to test.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before committing money or time to a plan, quarterly goals, or a major business bet, especially when the plan keeps changing but the conclusion does not.
Why use it?
It exposes hidden guesses early, while a plan is still cheap to change, instead of letting untested assumptions shape an expensive launch.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00037 $0.01602
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.00801
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00320
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00160

Security

Grade A, and why

assumption-audit scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 134 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Assumption Audit

Every plan is a stack of beliefs the founder has stopped noticing they hold. This skill writes them down as statements that can be proved false, throws out the ones that do not matter, and orders what remains by hours to test.

The ordering is the whole trick. Ranked by importance, the biggest assumption goes first, it costs six weeks to test, and the founder therefore tests nothing and launches. Ranked by cost, something gets tested on Tuesday.

When to use

Early — while the plan is still cheap to change. Before bet-sizing commits a cap, and ideally before quarterly-planning writes the bet into goals.md.

Also when a plan has been described three times and the description keeps changing shape while the conclusion stays fixed. That is a plan built downward from a conclusion, and its assumptions were never examined.

Inputs

Read first — house rule 1:

  • The plan, in whatever form exists
  • metrics.md — the recorded numbers, which decide what is evidence and what is belief
  • clients/ and pipeline.md — the same, for anything the plan assumes about demand
  • decisions/ — assumptions the founder has already tested and forgotten they tested

Beliefs

  • The assumptions that kill a plan are the ones the founder does not experience as assumptions. Anything they can state as a belief has already been examined once. The load-bearing ones are stated as facts, in passing, in the first paragraph — and they never appear on a list the founder writes unaided.
  • If striking what is already recorded does not remove at least half the list, the list is not assumptions, it is the plan retyped one sentence at a time. Twenty items is a transcript. What survives is usually three, and the collapse from twenty to three is the audit.
  • A statement that cannot be false is not a modest assumption; it is not an assumption at all. "The market wants this" survives every possible world, which is exactly why it feels solid and exactly why it is worth nothing.
  • Reluctance is the ranking. Whichever assumption the founder is least willing to test is load-bearing, whatever they marked it — and the reasons the test would be unfair, unrepresentative, or premature are a more reliable signal than the mark, because they took effort to produce.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

assumption-audit is a skill published in the GitHub repository msolecki/founder-os (4 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 37 tokens to every session and 1,602 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
