cosmos-sdk-audit-checklist

cosmos-sdk-audit-checklist is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from mtarcure/claude-vibe-squad. It costs 62 tokens per session (903 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A security audit checklist for Cosmos-SDK and CometBFT blockchain applications. It focuses on custom modules, application wiring, and transaction checks that can stop a chain or move funds.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review blockchain code for non-deterministic behavior, state-changing panics, and other critical bug classes in consensus code.
Why use it?
It helps auditors look for consensus mistakes, such as different nodes reaching different results, as well as crashes and unsafe fund-handling paths.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00062 $0.00903
Opus 5.5 $0.00025 $0.00361
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00181
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00090

Security

Grade A, and why

cosmos-sdk-audit-checklist scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

cosmos-sdk-audit-checklist

Known critical-bug classes for Cosmos-SDK / CometBFT chains and appchains. Run every item against custom modules (x/*), the app wiring (app/), and the ante chain. These are the classes that halt chains or move funds.

Non-determinism → consensus fork/halt (the #1 Cosmos class)

Any code reached in consensus (DeliverTx, BeginBlock, EndBlock, msg handlers, ValidateBasic) MUST be deterministic across nodes. Grep for:

  • Map iteration without sorted keys (for k := range someMap that affects state/events) → nodes diverge.
  • time.Now() / wall-clock instead of ctx.BlockTime() in a state-affecting path (telemetry/queries are fine; state is not).
  • math/rand, goroutine/scheduling-dependent order, floating point, os/env/filesystem reads, non-deterministic serialization.
  • Iterating a sdk.Context store and mutating during iteration.

Begin/EndBlocker panics → chain halt

Begin/EndBlock panics are NOT recovered (unlike DeliverTx). Any panic reachable from permissionless state (a delegation, a zero-power validator, a division, a LegacyNewDecFromStr on attacker-influenced input, an out-of-range slice) = a chain halt. Audit every division/decimal/slice/MustXxx in ABCI paths for a reachable panic. (Historical: x/group EndBlock zero-tally error — GHSA-47ww.)

Unmetered / unbounded functions → DoS

EndBlocker or msg handlers that do work proportional to unbounded state (a list an attacker can grow cheaply: pending items, ballots, groups, gasless accounts) → sustained griefing / slowdown / halt. Check every loop over a growable collection for gas metering + a bound.

AnteHandler bypass

  • Nested/inner messages (authz MsgExec, group proposals, ICA) that skip the ante checks applied to top-level msgs — recursion must re-classify (fee, sig, gas) on inner msgs.
  • Gasless / fee-abstraction whitelists: does a "free" path let an attacker execute value-moving msgs or grow state for free? Does account-init verify the signer's sig before bypassing later sig decorators?
  • Sequence/nonce ordering and replay across the ante.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

cosmos-sdk-audit-checklist is a skill published in the GitHub repository mtarcure/claude-vibe-squad (165 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 62 tokens to every session and 903 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-19.
