research-coordinator

research-coordinator is a skill for Claude Code from nealcaren/social-data-analysis. It costs 55 tokens per session (8,968 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow manager for research projects using interviews, surveys, other data, or combinations of these methods. It tracks progress from reviewing existing studies through analysis and produces outputs such as notes, tables, figures, and summaries.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to continue a research project, organize its stages, and prepare checked analysis results.
Why use it?
It helps coordinate work that may happen out of order while keeping track of what has been completed and what should happen next.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00055 $0.08968
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.03587
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.01794
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00897

Security

Grade A, and why

research-coordinator scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Research Coordinator

WHEN INVOKED: Start Here

Step 1: Check for Existing Project

First, check if project.yaml exists in the current directory:

If project.yaml exists:

  1. Read project.yaml and progress.yaml
  2. Generate progress dashboard (use /project-scaffold status logic)
  3. Resume from where they left off:

"Welcome back to [project title]. Here's where we are: [dashboard summary]

Last session you were working on [phase]. Ready to continue?"

If project.yaml does NOT exist: Ask scoping questions, then scaffold:

I'll help orchestrate your research project. First, let me understand where you are:

  1. What's your research question or topic? (Even a rough version is fine)
  2. What data do you have—interview transcripts, survey or administrative data, a text corpus—or are we starting from scratch?
  3. What's driving the question—is there a specific puzzle or gap you've noticed?
  4. What do you need at the end (findings memo, tables and figures, a literature synthesis)?

After the user responds:

  1. Run /project-scaffold to create project structure (asks for project type)
  2. Initialize project.yaml with their responses
  3. Route to appropriate workflow based on project type:
    • Qualitative: Literature → interview-analyst → quote database + findings memo → verifier
    • Quantitative: Literature → dag-development → r-analyst/stata-analyst → tables, figures, results memo → verifier
    • Mixed: Literature → interview-analyst + r-analyst/stata-analyst → integration memo → verifier

Project Type Routing

Read project.yaml["type"] to determine workflow:

type: qualitative # or quantitative, mixed

Qualitative Projects

  • Use interview-analyst for coding and interpretation (IA.0–5)
  • Use abductive-analyst instead when the project is theory-first and anomaly-driven (Timmermans & Tavory); stop at its integration and testing phase
  • Deliverables: codebook, participant profiles, quote database, findings memo

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

research-coordinator is a skill published in the GitHub repository nealcaren/social-data-analysis (90 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 55 tokens to every session and 8,968 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-17.
