brainstorm

brainstorm is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from nimble-giant/nimble-mold. It costs 62 tokens per session (818 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A structured brainstorming process for examining a software or product idea across feasibility, scope, and value. TDD means test-driven development, but this skill does not generate code.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when asking whether something is worth building, requesting a brainstorm, or pressure-testing an idea.
Why use it?
It turns a vague idea into a saved analysis report before implementation begins, helping reveal risks and unanswered questions.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00062 $0.00818
Opus 5 $0.00031 $0.00409
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00164
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00082

Security

Grade A, and why

brainstorm scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Skill: Brainstorm

What This Skill Does

This skill applies structured brainstorming techniques to systematically analyze an idea for feasibility, scope, and value. It draws from the UNC Writing Center's brainstorming methodology, adapted for evaluating software and product ideas.

The skill produces a saved analysis report — not implementation. The user decides independently whether and when to act on the findings.

When to Use This Skill

Use this skill whenever the user wants to brainstorm, evaluate, or pressure-test an idea. This includes requests like:

  • "Brainstorm X"
  • "Is this idea worth building?"
  • "Analyze whether we should do X"
  • "Help me think through this idea"
  • "What do you think about building X?"

Workflow

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Begin Analysis

{{- if .agent.plan_mode.enabled }} {{agent.plan_mode.enter}} immediately. The brainstorm output IS the plan. {{- else }} Begin the structured analysis. The brainstorm output will be presented for user review. {{- end }}

Step 2: Research

Before producing the brainstorm, gather relevant context:

  • Codebase context: If the idea relates to the current project, explore the relevant code, architecture, and existing patterns
  • Web research: Search for prior art, existing tools, competing solutions, and relevant technical concepts
  • Feasibility signals: Look for libraries, APIs, or frameworks that would support or complicate the idea

Do not fabricate comparisons or claim prior art exists without verifying. If you cannot find relevant prior art, say so.

Step 3: Execute All Seven Brainstorming Phases

Work through every phase in order. Each phase builds on the previous one. Do not skip phases.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

brainstorm is a skill published in the GitHub repository nimble-giant/nimble-mold (2 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 62 tokens to every session and 818 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
