apc-setup

A guided first-run setup for Audio Plugin Coder, a framework for building audio software plugins. It configures the project tools, file paths, models, and JUCE checks without starting plugin development.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to set up an APC project, re-check the computer, or change its paths and model settings. It provides platform-specific checks and installation guidance for missing requirements.
Why use it?
It gathers the setup choices in one configuration file and checks whether required tools are available. It also avoids silently replacing custom paths or an already completed setup.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00038 $0.01213
Opus 5 $0.00019 $0.00607
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00243
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00121

Measured 2d ago against content hash 98c8d69ebd5f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

apc-setup scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 128 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

APC Setup (/apc-setup)

Trigger: /apc-setup · /setup (deprecated alias) · "set up Audio Plugin Coder"

Model preference: economy / cheap (routing only). Read apc.config.jsonmodels.phases.setup if present.

Goal

Walk the user through a complete, cross-platform first-run configuration and write apc.config.json. Do not start a plugin phase.

Preconditions

  1. Workspace is an APC checkout (CMakeLists.txt, scripts/, apc.config.example.json).
  2. Detect OS: Windows → PowerShell; macOS/Linux → Bash.

Idempotency

If apc.config.json exists and setup.completed is true, ask the user to choose:

  1. Re-check only — run system-check, report results
  2. Change paths — update paths.* only
  3. Change models — update models.* only
  4. Full wizard — redo all steps (confirm before overwriting paths)

Never silently overwrite custom paths.

Wizard steps

1. Welcome

Explain APC briefly and that this configures the framework (not a plugin).

2. Prerequisites

Run system-check:

  • Windows: .\scripts\system-check.ps1 -Human
  • macOS/Linux: bash scripts/system-check.sh --human

For each failing check, give install guidance:

Check Windows macOS Linux
Git https://git-scm.com Xcode CLT / brew distro package
CMake ≥ 3.22 https://cmake.org brew install cmake distro package
Node ≥ 18 https://nodejs.org brew install node distro / nvm
Python ≥ 3.8 python.org (not Store stub) system / brew distro
VS C++ VS 2022 Build Tools
Xcode CLT xcode-select --install
g++/clang build-essential
WebView2 Evergreen Runtime WKWebView (system) WebKitGTK + libegl-dev
JUCE ≥ 9 submodule submodule submodule

Re-run checks until critical tools pass (or user explicitly continues with warnings).

3. Submodules / tools

git submodule update --init --recursive
git submodule update --init --recursive

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

apc-setup is a skill published in the GitHub repository Noizefield/audio-plugin-coder (313 stars, last pushed 7d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 1,213 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
