Getting it into your agent
It runs from inside its repository, so the clone comes first — what it calls does not travel with the file alone.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00162 | $0.02392 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00065 | $0.00957 |

Grade A, and why
animating-with-code scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 150 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Animating with code
You write the drawing; a headless browser (or PIL, cairo, ffmpeg) renders it. The method below comes from the ClaudeAnimationBase kit's guide and holds for any renderer. The kit itself is the fastest route to a hand-painted character short.
Before building, name the route and why (Oskar's standing steer, memory 06886186): the kit, a CSS/HTML page captured frame by frame, a pure ffmpeg filtergraph, or PIL/cairo frames.
The contract: frames are pure functions of t
- A shot is
fn(t). Samet, same pixels. No counters, no state carried between frames, no integrated physics, no unseeded random. Then frames can render out of order, split across parallel workers, and resume after a crash. - Stable per-object values come from a hash of an index. Deliberate wobble ("boil") comes from a seed that changes on a fixed clock (the kit uses 12 Hz, each drawing held two frames).
- Reseed per element. A moving element consumes a variable amount of randomness; without its own seed it shifts the stream for everything drawn after it and the still parts jitter every frame.
Procedure
- Storyboard in writing, before any scene code. One logline (wants ___, but ___, so ___), a small palette with a colour arc, a motif that pays off, and the emotion keys across the whole film. Then per shot: time span, transition in, the event, the reaction, the camera, and the reads.
- Write the reads. A read is one thing the viewer must understand, with a start and end time. Each needs time for the eye to find it, to understand it, and to register before the next starts. No two important reads overlap. If they do not fit the shot, lengthen the shot or cut a read. Timing is where generated animation fails most: everything at one brisk speed, events stacked, moments gone before they land.
- Check the storyboard: an event in every shot, a transition at every seam (including in and out of the film), no text, the ending rhymes with the opening. If a person is waiting, show them the storyboard before building.
- Block key poses as stills at each shot's storytelling moments. If the poses do not read as stills, motion will not save them.
- Add motion between poses, one shot at a time, in order: anticipation before big moves, slow in/out instead of raw lerp, arcs, overlapping action (eyes lead, body follows, appendages settle last), no twinning (offset left and right, offset characters' phases), exaggeration.
- Review loop (below) on every shot. Fix, look again.
- Render the full film; verify with
ffprobethat duration and frame count match the config.
What ships with it
1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

animating-with-code is a skill published in the GitHub repository oaustegard/claude-skills (158 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 162 tokens to every session and 2,392 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-26.
