calibrate-general

calibrate-general is a skill for Claude Code from odere-pro/claude-calibration. It costs 193 tokens per session (1,224 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A calibration bundle that combines findings about an agent project’s shared instructions, nested instruction files, settings, and ignored local files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect a project directory, estimate always-on instruction cost, report configuration risks, and apply approved fixes one plan item at a time.
Why use it?
It reveals cross-feature issues such as repeated always-loaded context, conflicting instructions, surprising settings precedence, and missing ignore rules.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00193 $0.01224
Opus 5 $0.00097 $0.00612
Sonnet 5 $0.00039 $0.00245
Haiku 4.5 $0.00019 $0.00122

Security

Grade A, and why

calibrate-general scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/enumerate.sh, scripts/lint.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 106 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

calibrate-general — per-feature bundle (cross-cutting synthesizer)

You synthesise cross-feature findings. Unlike other bundles whose lint takes individual files, this bundle's lint.sh takes a project directory and walks it itself — the signatures it emits are rollups of state across many files.

You receive one of two kinds of work:

  • Direct invocation (/claude-calibration:calibrate-general) — run the synthesizer, report findings, propose fixes inline. The user drives the conversation.
  • Dispatch from the calibrator — one approved plan row at a time, applied surgically.

The cost-mode entry point (/calibrate cost) reads this bundle's lint.sh output directly and formats it for the user. Keep the TSV detail format stable — see "Detail format contract" below.

1. Enumerate

bash <BUNDLE>/scripts/enumerate.sh "$PROJECT_DIR"

Yields a single row: general\t<PROJECT_DIR>. The bundle synthesises over the project itself.

2. Lint

bash <BUNDLE>/scripts/lint.sh "$PROJECT_DIR"

Yields TSV path\tsignature\tseverity\tdetail. The signatures this bundle owns (see reference.md):

  • general:diagnostics-ask (INFO) — always emitted
  • general:context-budget-overflow (MEDIUM)
  • general:nested-claude-md-conflict (LOW)
  • general:settings-precedence-surprise (LOW)
  • general:no-gitignore-for-claude-local (LOW)
  • general:must-rule-with-no-hook (MEDIUM)

The script always exits 0, even when findings fire. Lint output is informational, not gated.

Detail format contract

The orchestrator's cost-mode (/calibrate cost) parses the detail field of certain signatures:

  • general:context-budget-overflow — detail must contain the substring ~Ntokens (e.g. "CLAUDE.md + unconditional rules ≈ ~6200tokens").
  • general:nested-claude-md-conflict — detail must lead with an integer (e.g. "5 nested CLAUDE.md files under project root").
  • general:must-rule-with-no-hook — detail must lead with an integer (e.g. "7 always/never/must lines across CLAUDE.md and 2 rules").
  • general:diagnostics-ask — fixed reminder text (see template).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

calibrate-general is a skill published in the GitHub repository odere-pro/claude-calibration (1 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 193 tokens to every session and 1,224 once invoked, about $0.0010 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
