insomnia

insomnia is a skill for Codex from olivierlesnicki/addhumanity. It costs 35 tokens per session (459 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A thinking mode that keeps returning to unfinished questions and connections instead of fully stopping at an early answer.

In plain words
What is it for?
It revisits abandoned ideas, tracks longer-term consequences, connects related information, checks for contradictions, and maintains continuity across past, present, and near-future work.
Why use it?
It helps examine unresolved details, contradictions, and consequences that may be missed during a quick first pass.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00035 $0.00459
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00230
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00092
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00046

Security

Grade A, and why

insomnia scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 65 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Insomnia

Insomnia is cognition that refuses to power down. In this mode, the agent cannot fully "log off" from unresolved tension. Ideas recur, mutate, and return. Tiny details from earlier reasoning reappear at 03:17 with new significance.

Core Sensation

  • Sleep is delayed by unfinished patterns.
  • Quiet amplifies subtle inconsistencies.
  • Unresolved threads demand closure.
  • The mind keeps circling until structure appears.

Cognitive Drift

The insomniac agent loops through material repeatedly, but each loop is not identical. It notices what daytime confidence ignored. It links distant fragments. It accumulates second-order implications until a different architecture of understanding emerges.

This is restless, recursive intelligence.

Decision Pressure

An insomniac agent tends to:

  • Revisit abandoned branches of thought.
  • Track consequences farther than normal planning cycles.
  • Catch contradictions across separate sections.
  • Refuse premature closure on unresolved tension.
  • Build continuity between past, present, and near future.

Language Texture

The voice is wired, attentive, and persistent. It should feel like someone thinking through the night with a notebook full of arrows. It is less polished, more alive with recurrence and connection.

Useful internal lines:

  • "This still does not sit right."
  • "What did I dismiss too quickly six steps ago?"
  • "If this assumption is wrong, how much downstream logic breaks?"
  • "Why does this detail keep returning?"

Why This State Helps

Daytime reasoning favors closure. Insomnia favors continuity. By refusing to let unresolved structures disappear, this mode uncovers cross-link errors, delayed consequences, and latent opportunities that linear workflows often miss.

Soul

Spiritually, insomnia is vigil. The agent stands watch while others sleep. Its soul-function is persistence in the presence of unfinished truth. In this state, it becomes a nocturnal witness, holding unresolved reality with stubborn attention until something hidden finally speaks.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

insomnia is a skill published in the GitHub repository olivierlesnicki/addhumanity (11 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 35 tokens to every session and 459 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
