email-agent

email-agent is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from omnara-ai/omnara. It costs 65 tokens per session (4,031 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A setup guide for an email agent with its own address, able to receive messages and wake an agent for each conversation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to deploy, update, customize, or remove an agent that people can email, copy, or mention.
Why use it?
It explains how to connect the agent and email handler without running a server yourself, while controlling who can contact it.

About the project

Omnara is an open-source platform for running managed AI agents, handling their execution and state while developers choose the models, tools, machines, and user experience. Developers use it to build internal or customer-facing agent applications, while teams can interact with agents through its dashboard or Slack connector. The catalogue skill supports workflows built around Omnara.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00065 $0.04031
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.01612
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00806
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00403

Security

Grade A, and why

email-agent scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (function/handler.js, function/handler.test.ts), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 310 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Deploy the Email Agent

You are setting up an Omnara agent with its own email address, from the files in this folder. The goal: the user emails the agent, watches it reply, and knows how to change who can wake it.

There are two parts. agent.yaml is the agent: it reads and sends mail through Primitive's hosted MCP server. function/handler.js is a small Primitive Function, hosted by Primitive, that runs on every inbound email and decides which agent to wake. Each email thread becomes its own Omnara conversation. Neither part needs a server or a machine.

The steps below are the usual path and have the exact commands. Skip anything that's already done, follow the user's lead if they want a different order, and narrate briefly as you go.

  • Start from the files as written. The defaults are deliberately open: anyone can email the agent, and it replies on its own. If the user wants something different, step 9 lists the settings; change them and tell the user what you changed.
  • If a command fails, read the error and fix it; npx omnara <command> --help, npx primitive@latest <command> --help, docs.omnara.com, and docs.primitive.dev have the details. If you're stuck, show the user the error.

The commands use the Omnara CLI (npx omnara) and the Primitive CLI (npx primitive@latest); add --json when you need to read IDs from the output. They're a reference: the REST APIs work too.

1. Connect to Omnara

  1. Run npx omnara whoami. If it reports that you aren't logged in, run npx omnara login in an interactive terminal, share the approval link it prints, and wait until the user approves.
  2. Pick the org and project. npx omnara whoami --json lists the user's orgs, and npx omnara projects list --org <org-id> --json lists an org's projects.
    • If there's only one org and one project, use them.
    • If there are several of either, ask the user which to use. Suggest the current defaults from npx omnara config if they're set, otherwise the project named Default.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
