api-endpoint-scaffolder

api-endpoint-scaffolder is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from OneWave-AI/claude-skills. It costs 36 tokens per session (636 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for creating REST API endpoints—web routes that receive requests and return data—with validation, error handling, and typed inputs and outputs. It supports common backend frameworks such as Express, Next.js, and FastAPI.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, or DELETE routes, defining request and response types, or starting a backend service.
Why use it?
It provides a consistent structure for new routes and helps prevent invalid input and unclear server errors. It also makes the expected request and response data explicit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00036 $0.00636
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.00318
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00127
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00064

Security

Grade A, and why

api-endpoint-scaffolder scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

API Endpoint Scaffolder

Instructions

When creating a new API endpoint:

  1. Identify the framework (Express, Next.js, FastAPI, etc.)
  2. Determine HTTP method (GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE)
  3. Define request/response types
  4. Implement with best practices

Templates

Next.js App Router (TypeScript)

// app/api/[resource]/route.ts
import { NextRequest, NextResponse } from 'next/server';
import { z } from 'zod';

const RequestSchema = z.object({
  // Define your schema
});

export async function GET(request: NextRequest) {
  try {
    const { searchParams } = new URL(request.url);
    // Implementation
    return NextResponse.json({ data }, { status: 200 });
  } catch (error) {
    console.error('[API] Error:', error);
    return NextResponse.json(
      { error: 'Internal server error' },
      { status: 500 }
    );
  }
}

export async function POST(request: NextRequest) {
  try {
    const body = await request.json();
    const validated = RequestSchema.parse(body);
    // Implementation
    return NextResponse.json({ data }, { status: 201 });
  } catch (error) {
    if (error instanceof z.ZodError) {
      return NextResponse.json(
        { error: 'Validation failed', details: error.errors },
        { status: 400 }
      );
    }
    return NextResponse.json(
      { error: 'Internal server error' },
      { status: 500 }
    );
  }
}

Express (TypeScript)

import { Router, Request, Response, NextFunction } from 'express';
import { z } from 'zod';

const router = Router();

const CreateSchema = z.object({
  // Define schema
});

router.post('/', async (req: Request, res: Response, next: NextFunction) => {
  try {
    const data = CreateSchema.parse(req.body);
    // Implementation
    res.status(201).json({ success: true, data });
  } catch (error) {
    next(error);
  }
});

export default router;

Best Practices

  1. Always validate input using Zod, Yup, or similar
  2. Use proper HTTP status codes:
    • 200: Success
    • 201: Created
    • 400: Bad Request
    • 401: Unauthorized
    • 403: Forbidden
    • 404: Not Found
    • 500: Server Error
  3. Log errors but don't expose internals to clients
  4. Use consistent response format
  5. Add rate limiting for public endpoints
  6. Document with OpenAPI/Swagger when possible

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
