openagents: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/better/SKILL.md

better is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from OpenAgentsInc/openagents. It costs 34 tokens per session (414 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A prompt-refinement guide activated only by the explicit /better or $better command. It asks for deeper methods, source material, tools, and ways to check the result before rewriting the task.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for improving prompts or strengthening an already-running task when the user explicitly requests that mode.
Why use it?
It helps turn a shallow task request into a more specific brief without simply making it longer.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00034 $0.00414
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00166
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00083
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00041

Security

Grade A, and why

better scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

I want a deeper version of this task, not a bigger one. Before rewriting it: (1) say what a top professional in this field would do here that I'm not asking for; (2) name the rawest material they would start from instead of what has already been digested for me; (3) name the specific methods and tools they would use; (4) say what, other than you or me, would show the result is right. Then rewrite my prompt to ask for exactly that.

How to apply it

First decide which case you are in.

Case A: the user gave you a prompt to improve. The text with the command is a prompt or task they have not started yet. Give your answers to (1) to (4), then the rewritten prompt. Do not carry the prompt out.

Case B: work is already in progress. The command came alone, or with feedback on work you have already done in this conversation ("not good enough", "too shallow"). "This task" is that work, and the feedback is part of the task.

  1. Give your answers to (1) to (4) for that task, in a few lines each.
  2. Rewrite the task's brief: the original request plus the user's feedback, deepened by your answers.
  3. Decide whether to pause. If the new brief changes the goal, widens the scope, or needs a decision, money or access that only the user can give, show it and wait for their go-ahead. Otherwise carry on.
  4. Do the work again to the new brief. Start from the raw material in your answer to (2), use the methods and tools in your answer to (3), and before you report, run the check in your answer to (4) and say what it showed.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

better is a skill published in the GitHub repository OpenAgentsInc/openagents (458 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 34 tokens to every session and 414 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-20.
