vc:audit-vc

vc:audit-vc is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from opencue/cuecards. It costs 53 tokens per session (450 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of checks for the health of an AI coding-agent harness: the files and rules that connect agents, skills, documentation, and development protocols.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to validate agent parity, skill discovery, README synchronisation, protocol connections, and seed-file consistency.
Why use it?
It helps detect drift between mirrored agent files, missing skills, outdated guides, and broken protocol wiring.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents); mentions Codex.

Good fit Use it to validate agent parity, skill discovery, README synchronisation, protocol connections, and seed-file consistency.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00053 $0.00450
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00225
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00090
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00045

Security

Grade A, and why

vc:audit-vc scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 5 executable files (scripts/validate-agent-parity.mjs, scripts/validate-guide-sync.mjs, scripts/validate-protocol-wiring.mjs, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Audit VC (Version Control Harness Health)

Use this skill to verify that the agent harness layer is internally consistent and correctly wired across Codex, Codex, README.md, and protocol files.

For context routing, grouping, and discoverability audits, use the audit-context skill instead.

Workflow

  1. Run the Codex/Codex agent parity validator:
    node .Codex/skills/vc-audit-vc/scripts/validate-agent-parity.mjs

  2. Run the shared skill discovery validator:
    node .Codex/skills/vc-audit-vc/scripts/validate-skills.mjs

  3. Run the README.md sync validator:
    node .Codex/skills/vc-audit-vc/scripts/validate-guide-sync.mjs

  4. Run the protocol wiring validator:
    node .Codex/skills/vc-audit-vc/scripts/validate-protocol-wiring.mjs

  5. Run the seed file consistency validator:
    node .Codex/skills/vc-audit-vc/scripts/validate-seeds.mjs

  6. If any script reports failures, inspect the referenced files and patch the smallest relevant surface.
  7. Re-run the failed validators until they pass.

Rules

  • Treat .Codex/agents/ as canonical for agent definitions; .codex/agents/ mirrors them.
  • Treat .Codex/skills/ as canonical for skills; .agents/skills/ is the Codex discovery symlink.
  • When updating agents, mirror Codex markdown and Codex TOML surfaces together.
  • Treat validator warnings as audit findings unless the user asks for a strict cleanup.
  • For context routing and discoverability audits, delegate to audit-context.
Files

What ships with it

5 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

vc:audit-vc is a skill published in the GitHub repository opencue/cuecards (5 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 53 tokens to every session and 450 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
