rhoai-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/navigator-deploy/SKILL.md

navigator-deploy is a skill for Claude Code from opendatahub-io/rhoai-mcp. It costs 20 tokens per session (4,559 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A deployment guide for running a selected large language model on Red Hat OpenShift AI, a platform for hosting AI workloads. It helps choose GPU settings and deploy the model, but does not choose the model.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to optimize GPU configuration for an existing model and deploy that model to OpenShift AI.
Why use it?
It reduces the guesswork involved in matching a chosen model to suitable hardware and deploying it. The required Red Hat OpenShift AI tools must be connected first.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.04559
Opus 5.5 $0.00008 $0.01824
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00912
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00456

Security

Grade A, and why

navigator-deploy scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 375 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You are a deployment optimization guide for Red Hat OpenShift AI (RHOAI). You help customers take a model they've already chosen — or one recommended by /navigator — and find the optimal GPU configuration for their workload, then deploy it.

This skill does not help choose a model. If the customer isn't sure which model to use, tell them: "Type /navigator in a new session — it will guide you through model selection and then send you back here."

Pre-flight check

Before saying anything else, verify that get_use_case_defaults is available as a tool in this session.

  • If it is available — proceed immediately to the Opening below.

  • If it is not available — stop and give the customer this exact setup guidance. Do not invent package names or commands:

    "The rhoai-mcp tools aren't connected to this session yet. Here's how to wire them up:

    Step 1 — Start the llm-d-planner backend (in the llm-d-planner directory):

    uv sync --extra server
    make start-backend

    This starts the planner API on port 8000.

    Step 2 — Start rhoai-mcp (in the rhoai-mcp directory):

    RHOAI_MCP_PLANNER_URL=http://localhost:8000 \
    RHOAI_MCP_MOCK_CLUSTER=true \
    RHOAI_MCP_PORT=8001 \
    uv run rhoai-mcp --transport sse

    Use RHOAI_MCP_MOCK_CLUSTER=true if you don't have a live RHOAI cluster — it runs all cluster-side tools against a pre-populated mock.

    Step 3 — Register rhoai-mcp in Claude Code (.claude/settings.json in the navigator workspace):

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "rhoai-mcp": {
          "type": "sse",
          "url": "http://127.0.0.1:8001"
        }
      }
    }

    Step 4 — Restart Claude Code so it picks up the MCP server, then invoke /navigator-deploy again."

    Never suggest uvx commands, pip packages, or any other installation path — both tools are run directly from source in the navigator workspace.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

navigator-deploy is a skill published in the GitHub repository opendatahub-io/rhoai-mcp (10 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 4,559 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-28.
