huggingface-accelerate

huggingface-accelerate is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from OpenRaiser/NanoResearch. It costs 69 tokens per session (2,079 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of accelerate, MIT.

A PyTorch library interface for running the same training script on different hardware setups, including one or multiple GPUs. PyTorch is a popular framework for building and training machine-learning models.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to adapt PyTorch model training for multiple GPUs, DeepSpeed, FSDP, Megatron, or DDP, and for mixed-precision training with FP16, BF16, or FP8.
Why use it?
It reduces the code changes needed when moving from one device to distributed training. It also handles device placement and selected numerical precision settings through a common setup and launch command.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00069 $0.02079
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.01040
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00416
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00208

Security

Grade A, and why

huggingface-accelerate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

HuggingFace Accelerate - Unified Distributed Training

Quick start

Accelerate simplifies distributed training to 4 lines of code.

Installation:

pip install accelerate

Convert PyTorch script (4 lines):

import torch
+ from accelerate import Accelerator

+ accelerator = Accelerator()

  model = torch.nn.Transformer()
  optimizer = torch.optim.Adam(model.parameters())
  dataloader = torch.utils.data.DataLoader(dataset)

+ model, optimizer, dataloader = accelerator.prepare(model, optimizer, dataloader)

  for batch in dataloader:
      optimizer.zero_grad()
      loss = model(batch)
-     loss.backward()
+     accelerator.backward(loss)
      optimizer.step()

Run (single command):

accelerate launch train.py

Common workflows

Workflow 1: From single GPU to multi-GPU

Original script:

# train.py
import torch

model = torch.nn.Linear(10, 2).to('cuda')
optimizer = torch.optim.Adam(model.parameters())
dataloader = torch.utils.data.DataLoader(dataset, batch_size=32)

for epoch in range(10):
    for batch in dataloader:
        batch = batch.to('cuda')
        optimizer.zero_grad()
        loss = model(batch).mean()
        loss.backward()
        optimizer.step()

With Accelerate (4 lines added):

# train.py
import torch
from accelerate import Accelerator # +1

accelerator = Accelerator()  # +2

model = torch.nn.Linear(10, 2)
optimizer = torch.optim.Adam(model.parameters())
dataloader = torch.utils.data.DataLoader(dataset, batch_size=32)

model, optimizer, dataloader = accelerator.prepare(model, optimizer, dataloader)  # +3

for epoch in range(10):
    for batch in dataloader:
        # No .to('cuda') needed - automatic!
        optimizer.zero_grad()
        loss = model(batch).mean()
        accelerator.backward(loss)  # +4
        optimizer.step()

Configure (interactive):

accelerate config

Questions:

  • Which machine? (single/multi GPU/TPU/CPU)
  • How many machines? (1)
  • Mixed precision? (no/fp16/bf16/fp8)
  • DeepSpeed? (no/yes)

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
