fetch-payloads

fetch-payloads is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from openshift-eng/ai-helpers. It costs 16 tokens per session (736 once invoked), scanned B, original, Apache-2.0.

A tool that retrieves recent OpenShift release payloads, which are packaged release builds tracked by the release controller. It shows each payload's tag, acceptance state, time, failed blocking jobs, and release-details link.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to find recent nightly or continuous-integration payloads for an OpenShift version, inspect rejected builds, check architecture or stream status, and open release details.
Why use it?
It gives a current view of which builds passed or failed and why, without manually searching the release controller.

Installs and runs on its own, but its text points at files inside its plugin — anything it tells you to read at a ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT} path is only there once the plugin is installed. Installing the plugin gets both.

Part of the ci plugin — 34 skills, 21 commands, 2 agents shipped together

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00016 $0.00736
Opus 5 $0.00008 $0.00368
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00147
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00074

Security

Grade B, and why

fetch-payloads scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (fetch_payloads.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Fetch Payloads

This skill fetches recent release payloads from the OpenShift release controller, showing their tag name, acceptance phase, timestamp, blocking job results, and a link to the release details page.

When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when you need to:

  • Find the latest accepted (or rejected) nightly or CI payloads for a given OCP version
  • Check the current state of release payloads for any architecture
  • See which blocking jobs failed for rejected payloads
  • Get a link to the release controller page for a specific payload

Implementation Steps

Step 1: Determine defaults

If the user did not specify an architecture or stream, default to amd64 and nightly. If no version is specified, the script automatically fetches the latest from the Sippy API.

Step 2: Fetch payloads

FETCH_PAYLOADS="${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/skills/fetch-payloads/fetch_payloads.py"
if [ ! -f "$FETCH_PAYLOADS" ]; then
  FETCH_PAYLOADS=$(find ~/.claude/plugins -type f -path "*/ci/skills/fetch-payloads/fetch_payloads.py" 2>/dev/null | sort | head -1)
fi
if [ -z "$FETCH_PAYLOADS" ] || [ ! -f "$FETCH_PAYLOADS" ]; then echo "ERROR: fetch_payloads.py not found" >&2; exit 2; fi
python3 "$FETCH_PAYLOADS" [architecture] [version] [stream]

Examples:

# Latest amd64 nightly payloads (all defaults, last 5)
python3 "$FETCH_PAYLOADS"

# arm64 4.18 nightly
python3 "$FETCH_PAYLOADS" arm64 4.18 nightly

# Only accepted payloads
python3 "$FETCH_PAYLOADS" amd64 4.18 nightly --phase Accepted

# Show more results
python3 "$FETCH_PAYLOADS" amd64 4.18 nightly --limit 20

Step 3: Present results

The script outputs one block per payload to stdout with job details. Present to the user as-is or summarize.

Output Format

The script outputs a JSON object to stdout:

{
  "hours_since_last_accepted": 23.5,
  "last_accepted_tag": "4.22.0-0.nightly-2026-02-24-030944",
  "payloads": [ ... ]
}
  • hours_since_last_accepted: Hours since the most recent Accepted payload in the stream (from the full unfiltered history), or null if none found.
  • last_accepted_tag: Tag name of the most recent Accepted payload, or null if none found.
  • payloads: Array of payload objects, each containing tag, phase, release controller URL, and job results (blocking and async jobs with Prow URLs and retry details).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

fetch-payloads is a skill published in the GitHub repository openshift-eng/ai-helpers (116 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 16 tokens to every session and 736 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (reads agent configuration directories). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
