Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00115 $0.01837
Opus 5.5 $0.00046 $0.00735
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00023 $0.00367
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00184

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-desktop-macos scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

agent-desktop on macOS

Read the core skill first (agent-desktop skills get desktop) for the observe, act, verify loop. This skill covers only what is different on macOS. When a command fails, find the symptom in references/troubleshooting.md.

Requirements

  • macOS 13 or later, Intel or Apple Silicon.
  • Accessibility permission for the app that launches agent-desktop (Terminal, iTerm2, Warp, VS Code, Codex). macOS 27 and later name this list Device Control and Data Access. If System Settings lists the agent-desktop binary separately, grant it too.
  • Screen Recording permission, only for screenshot and for session start --screenshots artifacts.
  • Automation permission for System Events, only where a command reports it missing.

First contact

  1. Run agent-desktop permissions.
  2. If a permission is denied, run agent-desktop permissions --guide. It opens the right System Settings page with a panel that shows the user which app to drag into the list. The user confirms with Touch ID or a password, and the panel moves to the next missing permission by itself. The command returns at once with "guide": "started", "already_running" or "not_needed". agent-desktop permissions --request shows the system prompts instead.
  3. If the guide cannot run, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility (Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27 and later). Add the launching app and turn it on.
  4. Run agent-desktop permissions to confirm granted. The next agent-desktop call sees a new grant, so the launching app does not need a restart. Each command reads permissions in its own process, so a permission granted during a batch applies from the next CLI call, not to later items in that batch.
  5. Run agent-desktop snapshot -i to confirm. It reads the focused app. snapshot --app Finder -i returns WINDOW_NOT_FOUND when Finder has no open window.

permissions does not prompt. permissions --request can prompt, including for Automation. permissions --guide does not prompt and covers Accessibility and Screen Recording only. Automation reports unknown when macOS would need to prompt.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
