slack-dagster-to-orchestra

slack-dagster-to-orchestra is a skill for Claude Code from orchestra-hq/orchestra-skills. It costs 105 tokens per session (1,725 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A migration guide for changing Dagster notifications into equivalent Orchestra alerts or Slack-sending tasks. Dagster is a data-pipeline tool, while Orchestra is another platform for building and running those pipelines.

In plain words
What is it for?
Converting Dagster failure and success sensors, hooks, and in-operation Slack messages into Orchestra configurations.
Why use it?
It clarifies whether each Slack message belongs as a status alert or as a step placed at a specific point in the pipeline.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00105 $0.01725
Opus 5 $0.00053 $0.00863
Sonnet 5 $0.00021 $0.00345
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00172

Security

Grade A, and why

slack-dagster-to-orchestra scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Slack: Dagster -> Orchestra Conversion

Overview

Dagster Slack notifications come in two forms:

  1. Run-status sensors / hooks (make_slack_on_run_failure_sensor, @failure_hook, @success_hook) — fire when a run or op changes status; not pipeline steps.
  2. Explicit messages inside an op (context.resources.slack.get_client().chat_postMessage(...)) — a message sent at a specific point in the run.

In Orchestra these map to:

  1. alerts block (pipeline-level or task-level) — fires on status change; no pipeline slot consumed.
  2. SLACK pipeline task (integration: SLACK, integration_job: SEND_SLACK_MESSAGE) — fires at a specific position, when content depends on runtime logic or ordering matters.

Decision Guide

Dagster pattern Orchestra equivalent
make_slack_on_run_failure_sensor Pipeline-level alerts block (statuses: [FAILED])
@failure_hook / @success_hook on whole job Pipeline-level alerts block
@failure_hook / @success_hook on a single op Task-level alerts block on that task
SlackResource.chat_postMessage inside an op (mid-run) SLACK + SEND_SLACK_MESSAGE task
Slack message at end of job Pipeline-level alerts block (statuses: [SUCCEEDED])

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
