trestle-jinja-templating

trestle-jinja-templating is a skill for Claude Code from oscal-compass-lab/compliance-trestle-skills. It costs 97 tokens per session (2,447 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A template system for generating compliance documents from OSCAL data. OSCAL is a structured format for describing security catalogs, profiles, system plans, and assessment records.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create Markdown or other document outputs from OSCAL data, include selected sections or whole files, adjust heading levels, and insert date stamps.
Why use it?
It lets you assemble consistent documents from reusable Markdown sections and data instead of copying and updating the same text by hand. It can also clean included files and add formatted dates.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00097 $0.02447
Opus 5 $0.00048 $0.01223
Sonnet 5 $0.00019 $0.00489
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00245

Security

Grade A, and why

trestle-jinja-templating scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 358 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Trestle Jinja Templating

Trestle includes a Jinja2 templating system (trestle author jinja). Use it to make compliance documents from OSCAL data. Templates can reference SSPs, profiles, and catalogs. Output can be markdown or another document format.

Command Usage

trestle author jinja -i <template_path> -o <output_path> [options]

Custom Jinja Tags

Trestle extends Jinja2 with three custom tags:

mdsection_include

Include one section from a markdown file. Match the heading title:

{% mdsection_include "path/to/file.md" "Section Title" heading_level=2 %}
  • heading_level sets which heading level to search. The default follows the document structure.
  • The tag extracts the section. Extraction stops at the next heading of the same level or a higher level.

md_clean_include

Include a full markdown file and strip YAML frontmatter:

{% md_clean_include "path/to/file.md" heading_level=2 %}
  • Removes YAML frontmatter (between --- markers)
  • Adjusts heading levels relative to heading_level
  • Use this tag to build a document from more than one markdown file.

md_datestamp

Insert a formatted date stamp:

{% md_datestamp format="%Y-%m-%d" newline=True %}
  • format follows Python strftime format strings
  • newline adds a trailing newline (default: True)

Custom Jinja Filters

Filter Description Example
as_list Convert value to a list {{ value | as_list }}
get_default Get the default value {{ param | get_default }}
first_or_none Get first element or None {{ items | first_or_none }}
get_party Get party by UUID from SSP {{ ssp | get_party(uuid) }}
parties_for_role Get all parties for a role ID {{ ssp | parties_for_role(role_id) }}
diagram_href Get diagram link href {{ diagram | diagram_href }}

Context Objects

When an SSP is provided (--ssp), these objects are available in templates:

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
