setup-gitignore

setup-gitignore is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from OutlineDriven/odin-claude-plugin. It costs 58 tokens per session (1,944 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow for creating or repairing a repository’s .gitignore file. This file tells Git which generated or local files should not appear as untracked changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when setting up Git ignore rules or when untracked generated files keep appearing.
Why use it?
It stops unwanted files from repeatedly showing up in Git status and keeps ignore rules consistent when the workflow is run again.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00058 $0.01944
Opus 5 $0.00029 $0.00972
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00389
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00194

Security

Grade A, and why

setup-gitignore scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/compose-gitignore.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Setup gitignore

Contract

Field Bound contract
Trigger set up gitignore / fix gitignore / untracked files keep appearing
Authority Reversible-local: write only the repository .gitignore, with a snapshot before merging an existing file; never read or write a global excludes file.
Side effect Writes or edits .gitignore; never ~/.gitignore, ~/.config/git/ignore, or git config --global.
Done .gitignore has stable section anchors, composing it again with the same inputs produces identical bytes, and before/after untracked counts are reported.

Inputs

No required user input. Operate on the current Git repository.

Optional input is a set of empirical ignore patterns explicitly confirmed by the user after reviewing current untracked-path clusters. Never infer confirmation and never add an empirical pattern silently.

Procedure

  1. Locate the repository. Run git rev-parse --show-toplevel, change the working directory used by this procedure to that exact root, and stop with not-a-repository if it fails. Do not inspect global Git ignore configuration. Done when: the repository root is confirmed or not-a-repository is reported.

  2. Detect template keys at depth two. Enumerate regular files at repository-relative depth 0, 1, or 2, excluding .git/. Apply every matching row, deduplicate keys, and sort keys lexicographically before joining them with commas: Done when: the sorted key list is produced (possibly empty).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
