srgn-cli

A command-line tool for searching and changing source code based on its structure and programming language, rather than text alone. It can target comments, documentation, imports, functions, and other scoped code.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for code searches, scoped refactors, multi-file rewrites, tree-sitter queries, and CI checks that fail when files or matches do not meet expectations.
Why use it?
It reduces the risk of broad search-and-replace edits changing unrelated text or files.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00062 $0.01766
Opus 5 $0.00031 $0.00883
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00353
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00177

Measured 2d ago against content hash 585514f5c01c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

srgn-cli scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

srgn CLI

Overview

Use this skill to convert user intent into precise srgn commands with safe defaults. Focus on CLI workflows for search, transformation, scoped migrations, and lint-like checks.

Workflow Decision Tree

  1. Classify the request.
    • Search only: no content changes expected.
    • Transform in stream: stdin/stdout pipeline usage.
    • Transform files: in-place updates over globs.
  2. Identify scope strategy.
    • Regex scope only.
    • Language scope only.
    • Combined language + regex scope.
    • Custom tree-sitter query scope.
  3. Identify action strategy.
    • Replacement (positional replacement argument after --).
    • Composable actions (--upper, --lower, --titlecase, --normalize, --symbols, --german).
    • Standalone actions (-d, -s).
  4. Apply safety controls.
    • Prefer --dry-run for file operations.
    • Keep globs quoted.
    • Add --fail-no-files when missing files should fail CI.
  5. Choose output mode.
    • Human-readable (default tty).
    • Machine-readable (--stdout-detection force-pipe).
  6. Validate behavior.
    • Confirm expected match count.
    • Confirm no out-of-scope edits.
    • Re-run with stricter scope if needed.

Safety Protocol

  1. Default to non-destructive behavior first.
    • Prefer stdin-based or search-mode examples before in-place rewrites.
  2. For file edits, require preview path.
    • Use --dry-run first.
    • Then run the same command without --dry-run only after confirmation.
  3. Protect shell parsing boundaries.
    • Quote regex.
    • Quote globs: --glob '**/*.py'.
    • Use -- before replacement values.
  4. --glob accepts exactly one pattern (cannot repeat).
    • Glob syntax: *, ?, [...], ** only. No {a,b} brace expansion.
    • For multiple files: broader glob + --dry-run, or per-file via fd (CWD only—no [path] arg): fd -e <ext> --strip-cwd-prefix -x srgn --glob '{}' --stdin-detection force-unreadable [OPTIONS] [PATTERN]
  5. Use the narrowest scope that solves the task.
    • Prefer language scope + anchored regex over broad regex-only replacement.
  6. Treat -d and -s as high-risk operations.
    • Always provide explicit scope for them.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

srgn-cli is a skill published in the GitHub repository OutlineDriven/odin-codex-plugin (15 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 62 tokens to every session and 1,766 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
