diamond-task

diamond-task is a skill for Codex from OutlineDriven/outline-driven-development. It costs 39 tokens per session (1,285 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow for splitting one large issue or pull request into independent tasks that can be worked on separately and combined later.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build a task dependency graph, compose the separate changes, and verify the combined result.
Why use it?
It helps manage work that is too large or connected for one person or agent while preventing overlapping edits.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00039 $0.01285
Opus 5 $0.00019 $0.00642
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00257
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00128

Security

Grade A, and why

diamond-task scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Diamond task

Contract

Field Bound contract
Trigger Use when one issue or pull request is too large or too entangled for one worker and its complete writable surface can be partitioned into disjoint write sets.
Authority Reversible local: writes only the named local run artifacts and declared target write sets; rollback is restoring the pre-run checkpoint. No remote mutation. This is the sole production task-DAG generator.
Side effect Run isolated workers and apply their returned diffs by mechanical union within their declared write sets; the composer authors no content and changes nothing outside those sets.
Done Produce one result that reproduces every worker diff byte-for-byte within disjoint declared write sets and has approval from a fresh isolated reviewer who was neither a worker nor the composer, or stop with no partial composition and identify the falsified worker node or split.

Inputs

Required inputs are one issue or pull request with its acceptance criteria, the local target workspace, the checks each worker and the composed result must satisfy, and named local locations for the checkpoint, isolated composition, and run report. Supply any fixed ordering constraints between units of work; otherwise the partition determines independent worker nodes. The target's current bytes and metadata are the composition base. The production task DAG is derived from the supplied units of work and their declared ordering constraints only.

Procedure

  1. Capture the exact target base in the named checkpoint. Enumerate every target byte the task may create, replace, or delete, including integration edits, formatting changes, and generated output that the final result requires. Done when: the checkpoint captures the exact base and the complete writable surface is enumerated.

  2. Design the production task DAG by partitioning that complete writable surface into worker nodes with pairwise-disjoint write sets. Define each set by canonical target paths and, when a path is shared, non-overlapping byte regions or insertion boundaries. Give each node its task, allowed write set, required checks, required proof, and only the inputs it needs. Every content byte the composer might otherwise need to author must belong to a worker node. Stop before worker execution if coverage is incomplete, any sets overlap, or isolation cannot be provided. Done when: the DAG partitions the surface into disjoint covering write sets with every content byte owned by a node, or the skill stops on incomplete coverage, overlap, or missing isolation.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

diamond-task is a skill published in the GitHub repository OutlineDriven/outline-driven-development (52 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 39 tokens to every session and 1,285 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
