png2ico

png2ico is a skill for Claude Code from owenmorgan/claude-skills. It costs 5 tokens per session (1,682 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An image converter that turns one PNG into a browser favicon and related device icons. A favicon is the small image shown in a browser tab; the generated files also cover iOS, Android, and installable web apps.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding a site icon, phone home-screen icon, or progressive web app icon set from a single source image.
Why use it?
It removes the need to create and resize each icon file by hand. It is intended for Next.js projects using the App Router, but can be used in other web projects.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00005 $0.01682
Opus 5 $0.00003 $0.00841
Sonnet 5 $0.00001 $0.00336
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00168

Security

Grade A, and why

png2ico scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/png2ico.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

png2ico — Favicon & Icon Set Generator

Generate favicon.ico and a complete icon set from a source PNG. Optimised for Next.js App Router but works for any web project.

Generated files

File Size(s) Purpose
favicon.ico 16/32/48 Browser tab icon (multi-size ICO)
icon.png 32x32 Browser fallback icon
apple-icon.png 180x180 iOS home screen
icon-192x192.png 192x192 Android home screen / PWA
icon-512x512.png 512x512 PWA splash / install dialog

Setup check

Before first use, verify dependencies are installed:

python3 -c "from PIL import Image; print('ok')" && (magick --version || convert --version)

If anything is missing:

pip install Pillow && brew install imagemagick

Script location

The conversion script is at ${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/png2ico.py.

Workflow

1. Detect project context

Check if the current working directory is a Next.js App Router project:

ls package.json next.config.* app/layout.* 2>/dev/null

If app/layout.tsx (or .jsx, .ts, .js) exists, this is a Next.js App Router project. Set IS_NEXTJS=true for later steps.

2. Find or confirm the source image

  • If the user provided an image path, use it directly.
  • If no image was provided AND IS_NEXTJS=true:
    • Look for an existing logo or icon in the project: Glob for **/*.png, **/*.svg in common locations (public/, app/, assets/, src/).
    • Look for the largest square-ish PNG that could be a logo. Exclude screenshots, photos, and tiny images.
    • If a candidate is found, confirm with the user: "I found public/logo.png (512x512) — shall I use this as the source for your icons?"
    • If no candidate is found, ask the user to provide a source image.
  • If no image was provided AND IS_NEXTJS=false, ask the user to provide a source image.

Ideal source: square PNG, 512x512 or larger.

3. Generate the icon set

python3 "${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/png2ico.py" <input> -o <output-dir>

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
