simplify

simplify is a skill for Claude Code from Owl-Listener/inclusive-design-skills. It costs 48 tokens per session (316 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A method for making written content, user flows, and interfaces easier to understand and use. It reduces unnecessary choices, complex wording, and distractions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to rewrite interface text, simplify forms and workflows, reduce navigation steps, focus attention on the main action, and document the changes.
Why use it?
It helps people complete tasks without sorting through too much information at once. It also makes content more accessible to people with reading, attention, or memory difficulties.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.00316
Opus 5 $0.00024 $0.00158
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00063
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00032

Security

Grade A, and why

simplify scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Simplify

Take existing content, a flow, or an interface and produce a cognitively simplified version.

Process

Step 1: Assess Current Load

Using cognitive-load-assessment, evaluate the current state. Identify the highest-load elements and classify them as intrinsic or extraneous.

Step 2: Simplify Language

Using plain-language-design, rewrite all user-facing text:

  • Reduce to grade 6–8 reading level (grade 4–6 for critical content)
  • Replace jargon with plain alternatives
  • Shorten sentences to 15–20 words maximum
  • Make every instruction specific and single-action

Step 3: Reduce Visual and Interaction Load

Using focus-attention-design, reduce the interface to essentials:

  • Identify the one primary action per screen
  • De-emphasise or remove secondary elements
  • Remove decorative elements that don't serve the task
  • Simplify navigation to the minimum effective depth

Step 4: Present Before and After

Show the original alongside the simplified version with annotations explaining each change and why it improves cognitive accessibility.

Output

Deliver the simplified version with a change log that explains every modification. This allows the team to make informed decisions about which simplifications to adopt.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

simplify is a skill published in the GitHub repository Owl-Listener/inclusive-design-skills (98 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 48 tokens to every session and 316 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
