vanilla-extract

vanilla-extract is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from oyi77/1ai-skills. It costs 34 tokens per session (1,581 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A TypeScript library for writing CSS styles that are checked by the type system and compiled into regular CSS during the build. It includes reusable responsive styles, component variants, and themes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build typed component styles, responsive utility patterns, themes, and design systems in projects using tools such as Vite, Webpack, esbuild, or Next.js.
Why use it?
It helps catch style-related mistakes while coding and avoids sending a styling engine to the browser at runtime. This can keep styling predictable in larger interface codebases.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00034 $0.01581
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00790
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00316
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00158

Security

Grade A, and why

vanilla-extract scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Overview

Vanilla Extract is a zero-runtime CSS-in-JS library. Styles are written in TypeScript and compiled to static CSS at build time — no runtime overhead, full type safety, and excellent performance.

Capabilities

  • Zero-runtime CSS (compiled at build time)
  • Type-safe style definitions in TypeScript
  • Sprinkles for utility-first responsive styles
  • Recipes for component variants
  • Theme contracts for type-safe theming
  • Works with Vite, Webpack, esbuild, Next.js

When to Use

Trigger phrases:

  • "vanilla extract"

  • "Vanilla Extract zero-runtime CSS-in-JS — type-safe styles, Sprinkles, Recipes, t"

  • Want CSS-in-JS without runtime performance cost

  • Need type-safe styles in TypeScript projects

  • Building design systems with variant-heavy components

  • Migrating from styled-components to zero-runtime

When NOT to Use

  • Task is about content strategy, not creation (use strategy skills)
  • Task is about content distribution (use distribution skills)
  • You need to analyze content performance (use analytics skills)
  • Task is about content moderation (use moderation tools)
  • You don't have content guidelines
  • Task requires domain expertise (consult experts)

Pseudo Code

The vanilla-extract workflow follows a standard pipeline pattern.

Core flow:

# vanilla-extract primary flow
input = prepare(raw_data)
result = process(input, config={extract, recipes, runtime, safe, sprinkles})
validate(result)
deliver(result)

Error handling:

on error:
  log(error_details)
  retry_with_backoff(max=3)
  if still_failing: alert_and_escalate()

Basic Styles

// styles.css.ts
import { style } from "@vanilla-extract/css"

export const container = style({
  padding: "24px",
  borderRadius: "8px",
  backgroundColor: "#f8fafc",
  ":hover": { backgroundColor: "#f1f5f9" },
  "@media": {
    "(max-width: 768px)": { padding: "16px" },
  },
})

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

vanilla-extract is a skill published in the GitHub repository oyi77/1ai-skills (12 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 34 tokens to every session and 1,581 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
