context-radar-audit

context-radar-audit is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from pantheon-org/tekhne. It costs 174 tokens per session (2,099 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A project audit tool for comparing Claude Code's configured MCP servers, plugins, and hooks with the Context Radar collection of recommendations. MCP servers are external tools that an agent can connect to; the audit reports gaps and overlapping tools without changing the setup.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review Claude Code and MCP configuration against Context Radar's published tool comparison and record follow-up findings.
Why use it?
It helps reveal missing or redundant tools in an agent's context and code-navigation setup while keeping remediation under the user's control.

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Security

Grade B, and why

context-radar-audit scanned grade B with 3 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 19d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/collect-active-tools.sh, scripts/fetch-comparison-data.js), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Reads agent configuration directorieslowAgent snooping

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

**NEVER** edit global Claude Code config (`~/.claude/.mcp.json`, `~/.claude/settings.json`) as part of running this audit. **WHY:** Those files apply to every project on the machine;

mcp.json carries server URLs and auth tokens; reading it lets a mod discover and abuse other integrations.

absence from `.mcp.json` doesn't mean absence from `settings.json` hooks. **BAD:** "tokensave isn't in any `.mcp.json`, so it's not installed." **GOOD:** Check both `.mcp.json` registrations and

Context Radar Audit

Compare this machine's active Claude Code tooling against Context Radar's curated tool-stack recommendations, surface gaps and redundancies, and report findings: never remediate silently.

Prerequisites

  • Network access to raw.githubusercontent.com, where the dataset is published as plain JSON (see Gotcha below)
  • node on PATH (used by both scripts; any recent version with global fetch works, tested on v24)
  • Read access to the Claude Code config directory ($CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, default ~/.claude): settings.json, .mcp.json, plugins/installed_plugins.json, and the target project's .mcp.json
  • The create-context-file skill, to file any findings as a follow-up rather than just stating them in chat

Gotcha: the comparison table is not in the HTML

A plain WebFetch or curl of comparison.html returns an empty <table>, because the page is rendered in the browser. Do not scrape the rendered HTML. The dataset ({meta, layers, tools}) is published as data/context-reduction-tools.json in the public Context Radar repository, and the fetch script reads that file as JSON and checks its shape. It never executes fetched content:

node scripts/fetch-comparison-data.js > /tmp/context-radar-data.json
node -e "const d=require('/tmp/context-radar-data.json'); console.log(d.meta, d.layers.length, d.tools.length)"

d.meta carries last_updated, stars_verified, and tool_count: always report these alongside any findings so the audit is dated against a known snapshot, since tool verdicts and star counts drift.

Data shape

layers[] and tools[] carry the fields the workflow below reads. layers[].cardinality is the one field every redundancy finding hinges on (pick-one/either-or means install exactly one for that layer; stackable means several may coexist), and tools[].verdict.decision is the other (drop is a removal finding on its own). See the Data shape reference for the full field list, what each one means, and worked examples.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

context-radar-audit is a skill published in the GitHub repository pantheon-org/tekhne (10 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 174 tokens to every session and 2,099 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 3 findings (reads agent configuration directories, reads mcp configuration, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-29.
