codex-async-followup

codex-async-followup is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from patrick-fu/awesome-skills. It costs 40 tokens per session (368 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A follow-up scheduler for Codex App after subagents, background commands, or external jobs have started. It schedules the conversation to resume later instead of repeatedly checking for progress.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to schedule a one-time continuation, inspect the existing work later, and schedule another check if needed.
Why use it?
It avoids empty polling and provides a defined way to continue asynchronous work when its expected wake-up time arrives.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00040 $0.00368
Opus 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00147
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00074
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00037

Security

Grade A, and why

codex-async-followup scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 19d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Codex Async Follow-up

Resume asynchronous work from the conversation's existing context.

Check the current thread's Goal (get_goal when available). If a Goal already covers this wait, follow its continuation and stopping rules, and retire this skill's automatic heartbeat for the same wait.

For other waits, choose the continuation path for the session's role:

  • Global and project controllers use codex-session-controller for follow-up mode selection, checks, and scheduling.
  • Workers and ordinary tasks use the loop below for their own internal waits.
  1. After starting asynchronous work, continue any independent work. When none remains and the expected wait is long, such as a lengthy build or extended research running in a subagent or background task, use automation_update to schedule a one-time heartbeat in the current task (destination: "thread"), then end the turn. Choose a delay from the expected duration, usually 5, 10, or 15 minutes. Set the prompt to continue.
  2. On wakeup, check the existing work and apply step 1 again: reassess independent work and the expected wait before deciding whether to continue or schedule another wakeup and end the turn. Stay quiet when nothing actionable changed.
  3. Reuse this follow-up's automation ID for later checks. Pause or delete this follow-up when its work is complete or canceled, or its wait ends.

If scheduling is unavailable or fails, report the failure and the remaining wait.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
