git-task-workspace

git-task-workspace is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from patrick-fu/awesome-skills. It costs 48 tokens per session (429 once invoked), scanned C, original, MIT.

A workflow for creating task-specific Git worktrees from an upstream repository pool, including worktrees for tasks that span multiple repositories.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for starting tasks, checking out branches, adding repository dependencies, organising multi-repository work, and removing task workspaces.
Why use it?
It keeps each task's changes isolated and gives related repositories a consistent shared workspace.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.00429
Opus 5.5 $0.00019 $0.00172
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00086
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00043

Security

Grade C, and why

git-task-workspace scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Recursive force deletehighDestructive command

rm -rf with a variable or a broad path is one typo away from removing the wrong tree.

What it actually says

Git Task Workspace

Operate isolated, task-oriented worktrees from an upstream repository pool.

Invariants

  • source-pool: Clean, read-only upstream repository pool tracking trunk branches. Do not make dirty edits, run builds, or place temporary artifacts here.
  • workspace: Task directory root where every work item gets a dedicated folder (<workspace>/<task-name>/). Worktrees are checked out here.
  • single-owner: A task directory belongs to one active work stream. Multi-repo dependencies co-locate under that same task directory.

Workflow

  1. start-task: Create <workspace>/<task-name>/. For each required repository in the source pool, add a worktree into the task directory: git -C <source>/<repo> worktree add <workspace>/<task-name>/<repo> -b <branch> [start-point] Start points can be the default trunk, an older commit, or an existing branch.
  2. multi-repo: When a task spans multiple repositories, check out worktrees for all affected repositories directly into <workspace>/<task-name>/.
  3. add-repo: If an un-cloned dependency is needed mid-task, clone it into the source pool first, then add a worktree into the active task directory.
  4. tear-down: After code is merged or abandoned, remove the task directory (rm -rf <workspace>/<task-name>) and prune worktree references: git -C <source>/<repo> worktree prune The source pool remains pristine.

Setup and Migration

To initialize a new source/workspace layout, generate local AGENTS.md rules, or migrate existing repositories, read references/setup.md.

Files

What ships with it

2 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

git-task-workspace is a skill published in the GitHub repository patrick-fu/awesome-skills (69 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 48 tokens to every session and 429 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it C with 1 finding (recursive force delete). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-14.
